If you are reading this then you may well be wondering what has happened to the Pie & Piston, well at least the Pie & Piston as you know it smile

The good news is that it lives on and if you leave this forum you will see a whole new section we have created under the P&P banner that includes forums for a selection of topics as well as a new 'lounge' area for other matters. This area has been created with the intention of making the Pie & Piston an easier and more pleasant forum to use.

We are currently sorting out the topics at the moment into the new sections, however when P&P is back up if you find a topic listed below that you would like to comment on then you still can. When you click 'reply' on any of the topics below then you will be offered the chance to move the topic to the most relevant new forum and the topic will be activated ready for your new post. All we ask is that you do your best to move the topic to the RELEVANT forum and not just to the 'lounge' area. Remember that all topics in here are available to read at any time and will not be removed meaning you are still free to read many years worth of Pie & Piston content.

We hope you enjoy the new format and if you want some more detail on the new forums you will find a sticky thread at the top of the new P&P forums in a bit.

Sorry RP - this will be a bit of a "shoot in the foot" momnent for PH. Once you create too many specialist areas the site becomes too "narrow".

I have seen other sites where there are dozens and dozens of "specialist areas" and they are just too unweildy for me.

We need a "general" chat area where ANY topic is likely to crop up. It was part of the attraction of P&P.

A good example of the problems caused by this is the way music goes virtually undiscussed on PH now as all since the "music" related threads have been confined to a "music" area.

The P&P is the "soul" of PH.

My advice, reverse this decision before PH loses its "soul" completely.

Exactly the same argument was made when General Gassing was split into two (Gen Gassing + Pie and Piston).

I think it's a good idea. I'd happily quickly browse engineering threads and don't need to see Politics threads which don't interest me as much.

Given time I think this will be for the better.

I'm in agreement with Eric on this, but understand why it is being done (as I'm sure Eric is as well!!)

Fingers crossed that it works biggrin

I'm with Eric, soon there will be one topic per forum frown

When you go to a pub ,club or just out with your mates you just chat in one place you don't go to different rooms for different conversations

Eric - have a look at my post on the other thread, and please give us a chance before making this judgement. As you'll see, there is a way for you to recreate the single forum look of the P&P, but what we're trying to do is make PH harder for idiots (a catch-all term for ineloquent, abusive NSFW/racist posters who we simply don't want here any longer) and as enjoyable for quality posters such as you.

Come on, this is PH smile

The whole idea of the P&P was because General Gassing became TOO general (non-car related).

It was a good idea to open a general forum. This is, in essence, a reversal of that philosphy and doomed to failure.

What I haven't heard is an explanation from the "top brass" as to why they felt this revamp was necessary.
Was it a technical issue or just a brainwave after some "blue-sky thinking".

But if you look at the lounge...it is P&P, just under a new name....and with less depressing credit crunch stuff in it.

I wounder, if we'll start getting music piped through too cloud9

It's pretty tricky to talk about something in the Lounge that isnt covered by another forum now. Stupid idea.
