Merge News with Politics sub-fora

Notwithstanding the debate on the new layout, I think one thing has become abundantly clear almost straight away. The "News and Current Events" and "Politics and Economics" need to be merged.
When political announcements are made this is news, and should be discussed as such. Likewise items on the economy. These are topics which provoke sensible debate and shouldn't attract "Lounge" style posts.
Quite what you'd call it though is another thing...

The idea is that political/economic news will go into the politics forum, other news stories of interest will go into the news forum.
I agree that they are pretty close though, but the decision was a concious one. Splitting up an existing forum is very difficult, whereas if two need merging (as these might) then it is easy to do.
We'll give it a go but if they don't form their own identities then we will make them back into one.

I think I would agree with this one as well. Most of the topics are all interlinked.
Just a current affairs one would work. As that would also include all the eco babble.
As at the moment it is talked about a lot, yet there is no forum for it. As it is not news, or politics ( Well it is economics and politics really

If I were King of PH, I'd merge forums as follows:
I'd also prune the gadgets stuff into the Home Cinema forum, to make Home Cinema, Hi-Fi & Gadgets, leaving two relatively "pure" computing forums - one serious, one for games.
You could also make a case for merging the health forum into the lifestyle one.
While it's important to have some separation of subject matter, too many forums leads to balkanisation. This in turn causes people to leave because they can't be arsed picking through too many boxes to find the thing they're looking for.

Yup, then NATO will get involved and I don't think anyone wants that..I like the look of your ideas, there's overlap in those sections and they sit naturally together as "serious" sections.
Fewer "new" forums is less intimidating and more conducive to a "melting pot" ideal.
SSHSV did say it well earlier, too much compartmentalisation does reduce the "junk shop" appeal of a forum...
