Garlick (PH Main Man), Stuart (HM Director), Pete (Head Techie) and I have been commenting on the various threads pretty much continuously over the past 24 hours.
Aside from us, We have Chris Rosamond who is acting news editor, George B who is writing the news for us and Simon who looks after the classified admin work.
That is the entire list of PH staff, I'm not sure who else you would like to comment, or what you want them to say?

Thanks for the list. The point I was raising is that communication during the delivery is truly awful. Would you go to a client and change their website without consultation? Even if they had no say, out of courtesy I would explain the reasons why. Instead it comes from Plotloss second hand. You have a real live audience here, and this is what makes this place what it is. I know that changes are required but it's not the changes par se, it is the way the changes are administered.
If you want to do something useful, see if you can get Eric back on board. That is a real morale basher.
I'm going to put another copy of the at the top of this forum for those that missed it in the other spots, but if you have any other suggestions how we could do things better then please let us know, we will take it on board for next time.

Personally I don't go into specific forums anyway; I always used "What's New" turned to what I am interested in via the preferences. So I haven't even noticed the changes that are getting some people so upset.

As Will says above we did communicate by the use of sticky threads across the various forums but unfortunately they either were not read or did not hold enough information for everyone and thus questions were asked and it looked like we were not communicating the decision... we are very sorry if people feel that way and will look into this to see if there is better methods of communicating change when it happens in the future.
On your point of consultation on a change this is very hard for us to do. We obviously have several options when we make any change:
1 - Ask all the members what they think - this will result in a mix response full of conjecture, advice, opinions and the debate will ramble on with no majority having a result and thus nothing would ever be done.
2 - Ask the moderators what they think - after all they are a subset of the members of the site and contribute like all of them and thus are like a focus group - This is the option we took and the vast majority were in agreement that the changes would benefit PistonHeads.
3 - Launch live and communicate the changes at the time of launch - This is also what we did (though from your comments you personally feel the communication part not well enough). True! In hindsight it may have been better to have left Pie and Piston unchanged and introduce the new forums. 'Back-door' method I know, but would have had a far smaller impact on the nay-sayers!I don't get it. What's the big deal? Things change, hey - that's life. There's no point in people getting their knickers in a twist over it, it's just a way of separating some of the P&P wheat from the P&P chaff. There was a problem on here with P&P being synonymous, not with "general chat" as opposed to "motoring topics", but with "crap". Standards have been dropping like a stone on there.
This is an attempt to resolve that issue. I can't honestly say it bothers me either way, because I use "Last 3 hours" rather than any one board as a basis. But if it means I avoid having to click interestingly titled threads which turn into PH-style bhfests or "OMG teehee LOLZ I'm a wee girlie and I need a big, strong man to tell me what car to buy" threads, then great!
As has been pointed out above, this is a kind of extension of Ted's original decision to open the P&P. But there's been a danger for some time now of PH turning into a general forum with a few people into cars on it, rather than retaining its core purpose of being a motoring forum with a big of off-topic chat. P&P was intended (AFAIR) to keep all the OT stuff in one place, rather than allowing it to spread unchecked through GG. But then various other boards opened - Music, Watches, Food, whatever. How is separating out the P&P into its component parts any different to that?
So to summarise: I don't care either way. If it keeps the undesirables in a box away from us normal people, then it's fine with me.
ETA: Can we have a Bring Back Carzee board now, please?
