Bizarely, it would seem every Mod seems to use the 'What's new' feature, and have done for donkey's. Could it actually be the case that they don't even realise the dynamic of the Pie and Piston? So used to this wonderful 'What's new' widget, they couldn't even see P&P as every other user seems to and have no idea what was right beneath their very noses?

hehe You actually word your post in such a way that you think it was the Mods decision to change the format of the P&P.
Secondly, do you actually remember any moderation of the P&P at all?
It was the most heavily moderated of all forums- so how can your theory be correct?

Or could it be that there are people who don't give a flying fart about the precious P+P because it has no interest for them? There may be some who have never looked at it, and many who avoid it because of the nature of the posts. What sacrilege is that? rolleyes

Steady lad, steady.

It does beg the question though, if some people didn't give a flying flatulence bout about the P&P (dearly departed), then why were some of them so vocal in favour of the decision to break it up?

P+P hasn't departed - that's the whole point. It's moved to Website Feedback The Lounge (not the greatest of names I admit, but it is meant to have the same function)

Not everyone on PH frequents P+P/Lounge - a lot of people avoid it bacause it isn't their thing. But P+P wasn't and isn't the raison d'etre for the forums. It is clearly important to a vocal group of regular posters, but that isn't everyone on PH. P+P humour should be for P+P, and it isn't fair to have threads hijacked by Oxo Tower jokes, nob gags etc, when people simply want an answer to serious questions. The changes are partially an attempt to move these topics away from the free-for-all that is P+P/the Lounge. The new forums are quite busy, which surely shows people are appreciating them?

Don't you agree that it is incredibly disrespectful to other forum members to hijack a thread with a "Nuke 'em from orbit/Kick 'em in the face" type comment when they might be trying to get information/discuss a subject about which they feel serious? The acid test is whether you would make the same comment face-to-face with the people - you would sound like a right tit in those circumstances.

Give the changes a chance to work - there will certainly be tweaks and modifications based on the comments already made. If the P+P/Lounge gets more freedom of operation and less moderation as a result of the changes, surely that's part of what you're asking for?

Nubbin - you seem to be under the illusion the P+P was broken.

It wasn't - the purile gags were being reduced by heavier moderation. It was working.

There was no need for a change - the change has broken the busiest forum in PH. Can someone please just admit the error and put it back as the majority liked it rolleyes

No illusion on my part - I didn't think P+P was broken, but it has been dominated for a long time by puerile and sometimes inappropriate stuff. It isn't broken now either. I don't want to sound like I'm repeating the official PH mantra, but there are lots of members who don't like venturing intop a P+P style atmosphere, but who might like to dip in to some of the more informative threads that went in there.

I think you may be under the illusion that this was an overnight decision, but in fact it's been coming for ages. The heavy moderation of which you speak comes at a price - more mods have been created, and there is constant debate trying to refine the rules and more importantly the spirit of posting. But there is a limit to the amount of work volunteer mods can get through and the volume of complaints about P+P was epic. Those who enjoyed constant banter and the in-jokes possibly cannot, or will not, see that there developed an intimidatory atmosphere that was putting people off joining in P+P. You may not like to hear that, but that doesn't make it less true.

Once again, go and look at the new forums - they are active, well-subscribed and informative. Just what is the problem with them not being in P+P? smile

well, my initial observation is that posts thst otherwise would have had a number of useful responses have received one or two responses in a day.

This is probably the result of too many sub fora.

If the intention was to reduce the number of posts/members - I think it will work.

Agreed!

You don't know what you've got 'till it's gone, and now that the P&P has been burned to the ground the mods only have a short time to rebuild it before the regulars take up stools somewhere else!

My use of PH is to first click on my contributions, and after that click on whats new last 72 hours.

I read any post where the title holds interest.

I usually post in P&P.

I'm pretty much the same, although I will also click into TV&S just in case I missed anything in the what's new page.
