Boats and planes section
Discussion
The trouble is seaplanes and those Russian eraktocran (?) things that some members seem to be especially attached to - they just blurred the boundaries and made it difficult for us to know which forum was appropriate. I mean, a Caspian Sea Monster that effectively 'flies' (and is thus an aircraft)but never gets out of the ground effect, isn't that really a 'boat' when all is said and done? We spend ages debating this deep into the night at PH towers. It seemed to be going the 'planes' way, which I am sure we could have accepted, but then somebody said, 'What about hovercraft?' Well, that really did it. I mean, we can pretty much accept that the Sea Monster is an aircraft, just a very foreign one, but a Hovercraft? It was invented in Britain FFS! And it seems to be more boat-like, given that it was either that or a ferry to get across to Calais. Cue endless weeks of debate and some late-night phone calls to Eric Mc for expert analysis. In the end we thought, sod it, why not just have the one forum.

I know it's currently cool to try and split hairs over the new forum sections (Hey, what about the FILM Jaws? You know, the one set on a BOAT that stars the towns PLOD chief that TRAVELS from the HOLIDAY beach to the sea...) but I honestly think that space should have it's own forum, then all our attempts to fly there and the place we are attempting to fly to / understand more could sit together in harmony.
After all, what is bigger than space? I vote for a space forum.

No - there are no FAR too many fora and setting up yet another one will guarantee that those who have a passing interest in space will never visit such a forum.
The beauty of putting space in the The Lounge (or the old P&P) is that many people discovered (or re-discovered) space topics they would otherwise have missed.
I have had people come on and thank me for the fact that they were made aware of the Space Station overhead passes or Space Shuttle launches - which was very gratifying to me.
Unfortunately, with the now very fragmented PH, this opportunity to introduce events such as these to the previously unaware is now seriously degraded - and, in my opinion, a great loss.
I actually have felt very upset by the changes for this very reason but, in the end, have had to live with them.
However, in my opinion, in this respect, PH is a much poorer place.

Personally .....Boats was separate before and I used it alot. Now it has planes and trains and spacestations et all.I dont bother and have resorted to YBW's forum.I cant be bothered to sift between the various topics to find the Boat relevant posts. There doesnt seem to be so many boat posts now,or they are diluted with planes and Trains.Either way I want the Boat section back.

YBW has way more boaty resource than PH ever did, probably the best place for 'serious' boating questions (as PH is for car stuff).I agree with Eric on the separate space forum - in there nobody would hear you scream.
