Cant find a thread.

There was a great thread all about old lorries, Scammell etc.

I searched all the words I can think of, lorry, truck, classic, vintage, ERF, Foden, Scammel etc but no cigar.

What else?

Might be a tricky one to find, in most case of photo threads (or links posted) people just post them without any description to say what they are which makes it virtually impossible to find again.

I have the same problem with absolutely loads of old posts. There was some maintenance on two occassions over the last year or two, and since then I've not been able to find any of the old ones I know exist. I try the X years option all the way to the maximum on the advanced search page but I only ever get 2009 posts. Yet others can find them. Weird...

Just tried the term 'hesitation' on the standard search page, which I know was in the title of one of my old ones on the Noble forum, but it doesn't appear. Earliest I get is December 2008.

Have you tried typing the search in google? type "pistonheads" then whatever you want to search. You might be luckier with that.

It is very annoying that the search function does not seem to work as we might expect.

Excellent, that found it!

But...the bookmark link was missing? So I opened a new window and trawled back through GG knowing the date until I found it, then I could see the bookmark link.

Its a pity with picture threads that as time goes on the pics go missing.

Unfortunately pictures (as they are linked in from external sites) are very hard for us to index or search on so we have to rely on the text inside the posts.

As for the search functionality we are going to look to extending the search archive further back in time next week, so hopefully it will start to pick up those old gems again if it works.

The weird thing is that for some others it seems to work as expected and seem to have no trouble finding the old ones. Maybe they do the Googling thing.
