Hi Ted,

I was wondering whether there'd be any chance of sticking some sort on country identifier next to people's names on threads? This'd be quite nice, especially on multinational discussions like the current 'Elise in the US' one, for example.

Flags would be cool, although that obviously means finding all the appropriate flags for the various countries; failing that, maybe just a car-sticker-style acronym (assuming people have entered the country on their profile).

Cheers,

Richard

Not at all. Just very busy this week. I'll check out the database and see what the implications are.

I've just noticed that you've already got the flags on the members' directory, so it looks like you're most of the way there already.

Maybe, just to reintroduce a bit more work, you could only display the non-UK flags on the postings to save clutter, since this is a UK site, or possibly the flags of any country other than the member's own (based on their profile).

I've had a bit of a think about it and it doesn't require a great deal of work to move the database bits and pieces around.

However, I'm not so sure it's a good thing. People can be a bit xenophobic and I think it might be more peaceful if it's not immediately obvious where someone is posting from. Plus I'll get into the hassles of Scots people not wanting a Union flag on their profiles etc.

Yeah, the whole English, Scottish, Welsh thing did occur to me as well - always a troublesome one!

How about having it as an option in the preferences then, as per the info on number of posts etc. That way people would have the choice, and the xenophobes (i.e. the people who find the name Farboud a bit foreign sounding ) could remain blissfully blinkered!

Go on Ted, you know you want to...

I may experiment with it at some point.
