Is it right for a member to promote their trade in threads?

"GCL tuning" seems to be advertising in threads (imho)

If this is now fair game, rather than impartial advice, can I start advertising my services to people on any slightly related topic where I can offer a commerical service?

Or is this a paid for right that is now available on Pistonheads?

I don't know if it's really that bad or not. When you can give advice generally, great, but when that advice points the finger to your own business I feel it is a little bit too close to advertising.
I could happily advise people where to go, or even to use my own services where applicable, but I don't, simply because I *try* use PH impartially where I may have a commerical interest.

We try to avoid this as much as possible, company names as user names, website links in posts, thread resurrections to promote their business, that kind of thing.

Obviously we rely on members to point it out to us via the report link when it happens as we can't be everywhere.
