Perhaps people should be made aware that I didn't see the post about another PHer's pet dying before I put up my protest -and I didn't mean to antagonise or cause upset.

TO captain Zep. Fair enough. Saw Ali Kat had transferred your post so thought as I was one who'd responded to your post I ought to respond to your apology. My reply was slightly harsh but just thought your timing was completely off but apology is appreciated and time to move on . Lets hope we can get back to posting cat pics.

People can only respond to what they see and it looked as if I was laughing in the face of poor old 944nick and any others who'd just lost a pet.

Learned a lesson about reading threads properly before posting and deserve all I get.

It was a pretty horrible mistake really.

Imagine a grumpy bloke who's sat down after a rough weekend, with a temp of 39 from Fri onwards, who's looked after his puking, soon to be made redundant wife (waiting for a gall bladder op) and two kids. Said bloke and Missus haven't had too many nights' sleep in the last 2 years due to child #2 and the long week is about to start all over again. He clumsily flicks through what he sees as some cloyingly cutesy cat pictures and posts something pointless and snide. Then he spots that someone has just lost a family pet and immediately regrets his crass post. Embarrassed, he tries to make amends. And doesn't even do that very well.

Blue33, not sure what more I can say. Other than it doesn't matter greatly to me whether someone I've never met -and probably never will, accepts an apology or not.

I honestly don't get this weird tiptoeing around regarding pets passing away.


ETA: I'm not suggesting that it's wrong for people to be upset, but I find bringing it out into the world and expecting everyone else to know and self-censor is rather OTT.

yes, because to most of us a pet is a much valued member of their family.

Opinions can be offered with far more tact. In this particular instance the comment was well below the belt and not really much of an opinion.

This is just a general comment, certainly not expressed at CZ.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but if expressing that opinion is bound to cause upset then one has to wonder the motives for posting it! Nothing wrong with a bit of debate or humour, but sometimes people need to engage their brain and think about the effects of what they are saying.

I know this is the internet, but some thoughts are best left unsaid!

It is a question of context and common decency. People are entitled to their opinions but expressing them in a way that causes distress to others isn't on, especially when it seems to be done just to look for an argument.

We all get grumpy, I have kids, stress etc. Generally I try and engage brain first. My daughter who lost her cat read your post over my shoulder. She asked me if that's the man that killed her cat?

Questioning people's strong fondness for an animal would have been acceptable (to most).

What I posted was just unpleasant in the context of other recent posts I didn't read and I wish I hadn't.

I'm now self-imposing a PH ban during which I will be very nice to all cats and their owners.
