Not a topic I can search for, but having a browse in the Lounge and noticed the sheer amount of topics that have been "MOVED" to a more appropriate section. I cant help but think it is over-administered, as the OP may want to reach as wide an audience as possible in the shortest time.

The old P&P was like entering your local pub, all engaged in various debates and topics whilst having a pint. Turn to the left you get a football argument going on, turn to the right, its about women or cars, fishing or the boss at work. Now its very sanitised and everything has its place, like that Monty Python skit, "if you want an argument, go up the stairs, turn left, 3rd room on the right".

I have given it a chance, but nah, not a fan of this "Monica Geller" style P&P, I demand that you reinstate the old P&P immediately!!

Never going to happen, they can target advertising to the different sections by operating this way.

What's the betting that even as I am typing this thread is being moved to website feedback!!

It has its advantages and disadvantages, I reckon.
I'd love to know the site stats to see what it does for traffic.
One thing is for sure, and that is you don't get anywhere near as many responses to a post if it is in one of the subsections!
THat's the only real gripe I have with it.

I find it very annoying too but this was all wrapped up last year - it won't change.

Why not just click on the 'pie and piston' title on the gassing station page to get all the topics in pie and piston on one page?

Click on 'my preferences' at the top to remove the sub forums you don't like?

rolleyes

I, like many other, just have it set to show the forusm I want to see.

I actually prefer it this way, as I can look at what I want and not have to trawl through pages of other unrelated topics to find it.

Not wanting to dig up old graves, but does beg the question of why it was split on the first place, if everyone has to use the Forum Group to view P&P as a whole.

So you can get rid of the crap stuff that you don't want... and make it easier to find stuff you do want...

I really don't see why this is an issue...

It makes it easier to find the topics you are interested in and avoid the ones you don't like. It also stops potentially interesting topics dying just because they have dropped off the first page.

The forum group page is just there to give people the choice of which they prefer.

With the proliferation of the number of forums, I have always just viewed my favourites - but that means when I very oocasionally change to 'Show all' I see ones I didn't know existed...

Could we have a pistonheads.announce type forum for just letting people know about new forums? Could then add new interesting ones because i would know they were there...

If we split a forum we try to make sure that both are added to the favourites of anyone who had the original one in their favourites. Aside from that we do announce most things in here!

Also, I think it's succeeded in creating many smaller communities.

That community is what PH always thrived on, and as the site grew it was difficult to still see that with so many people in one place. Now people have, ever so slightly, split it means we have that real commmunity feeling again (in my opinion, of course).
