Redirectingat...

May I ask what the purpose of this is? It makes life a bit of a pain when you want to copy and paste a link somewhere else (even to use elsewhere within PH forums) as it b0rks the URL formatting.

As explained a few weeks ago by the mods, it makes PH money if a member end up buying through the clicks, agree its very annoying as its a dumb system which blanket covers the whole forum as opposed to selectively identifying urls.

I hadn't noticed it doing that before, so it has possibly changed recently, but agree that it is annoying.

I'll see what can be done to sort it out and post back here once I've talked to the appropriate people.

It also appears to be broken on occasion. As of 23:30 on Tues evening every redirectingat.com link fails in IE. Was working half and hour ago. This is intensely annoying.

I find it very annoying to. Afilliate links should be made clear from normal links.

NHS I. in my trust have blocked the redirectingat URL too.

Do you mind if I ask why you think this? The redirectingat links are not part of a campaign that we are trying to promote, all it does is check any link passed through it and attach an appropriate affiliate code if one exists.

This means that if someone on the forums posts a link to (for example) a book on Amazon and then another member clicks through and buys the book, PH earns a little bit of commission. Same applies to eBay and most other sites with affiliate marketing schemes.

In an ideal world it should be so unobtrusive that you barely notice it but if it continues to cause problems that outweigh the small amount of money it generates then we will turn it off.

I can understand your reasoning for having them, but I think it was a bit sneaky to roll out without telling anyone that the links are now affiliate. I have nothing against affiliate links if they help the site, but I still think we should be told. Maybe its my fault for not reading this section of the forum often...

Yes it's borked. Links taking forever to open, or indeed, not open at all as the connection has timed out.

Digging up an old thread, but this has just started with me and made me think I had a virus. I just clicked on a link to a PH ad in a thread and go something like a Bingo site or something.

Pointless - if I wanted to look at an advert for something other than that in the link, I wouldnt have clicked on the link!
