Please please please can we have a Pistonheads event at the Millbrook Proving Ground...

My idea (unrealistic maybe) is that we hire out the entire place for a whole day... sell general entrance tickets and further activity tickets for whatever you'd like to do (high speed ring / alpine road etc) in your own car... hopefully these should cover the costs of hiring the place...

No, I have thought about safety, marshalls or insurance cover to any damage to armco etc (or much else), I just think it would be a fantastic day!

Considering the amount of people at Dunsfold the other day could something like this be possible? (or do I need a slap?)

Isn't it only available for use and hire by SMMT (Society of motor manufacturers and traders) members ?

Its a private test facility, not a "run what you've brung" centre and the only suitable test facility would be the speed bowl.

Rockingham would be a better bet.

I think you need to get a calculator and do 'some maffs'.

What you really want to do is get in touch with 'Help for Heros' and get them to do it as a fundraising event.

Then Milbrook will (hopefully) allow the use for a lower cost as they will get good publicity, and attendees will be less stingy with their payments/donations. The H4H guys have experience of organising this kind of thing (take the Bovington trackday at the tank training centre for example) and would be able to do enough PR to get sufficient attendees to make it work.

You can do driver traing days there aswell.... I think its a company called Cadence that does them.

So they are definately used to Joe public coming down for the day...

Remembering that I have no idea what it would cost to hire for the day, I'd guess that just about everyone on PH would like an event held there. The beauty of the Dads Day Out event the other day was that the general public could not only get close and personal with some very rare exotica but also watch them on track being driven hard, I doubt I'll ever see 3 F40's in a row going for it on track ever again... plus we also had the chance to take a passenger ride in them!

An event at Millbrook would bring along everyone from supercar owners that want to have a go on the high speed run, to owners of more normal cars wanting to give the skip pan or Alpine / City course a go, to 4x4 owners wanting to give the off road section a blast... and on top of all that you will have potentially hundreads of people going just for the sight of it all (much like at DDO).

Sell General admission tickets (like DDO again) and charge for extra's... Alpine course £20 (eg) High speed run (£20) and book each person into a time slot for their turn.

The only downside I found to DDO (im really splitting hairs here) was that essentially after say 3 hours you could have done and seen everything that there was to do, which meant you just wondered round looking at all the nice cars again. Saying that it was by far the best PH event I've ever been to, but at Millbrook there would be sooooo much choice that you could be there all day and not run out of things to see or do.

I personally would love to be a spectator watching Enzo's / Carrera GT's / Diablos shooting past at 200+mph and considering how 'up for it' the supercar owners were at DDO I doubt they would turn the opportunity down...

Just my 2p. but I do hope that maybe (just possibly) this idea has got the attention of someone within PH management that might just find out the logistics of such an event or if it is even possible and reply with a quick love the idea but no / we are looking into it / you need a slap.

I've done a couple of days there. Both times the facilities have been in use by car companies testing their cars. I think it would be expensive to get the whole place for the day. I suspect that they would insist on each driver being supervised at all times, which would make it very expensive.

There are several "fun" bits. I would rate them in the following order.

1. The Alpine course (where they filmed the James Bond Stuff)
2. The small race track thinghy
3. The Bowl
4. The Skid Pan
5. The Straight Mile

It's a request to PH, where better to have it than a feedback forum where it will be seen smile
