PH crashes all the time!

It happens every few minutes so I will give up for a week and try later...

It's only ever the forum.

I suspect database problems. Most likely an indexing problem. It's a huge forum database and even a missing/suspect index on a table can cause huge performance problems on large datasets.

Recommend the DB Admin has a look.

By crashing - what exactly happens and what do you mean?

Is it the page goes blank? The error page appears? You can't even get to PistonHeads?

Pages won't refresh, or the error message appears.

Also, just as often, when trying to open up the PH homepage from scratch, I get a Firefox error message stating that 'the connection has been reset' - 'the website may be too busy' and gives me a 'try again' option, which sometimes works, sometimes not.

It crashes instantly in classifieds now too.

By crash I mean the whole application closes down and it vanishes.

Giving up with PH for a while now...

So you click on some part of the classifieds and the whole browser crashes?

Sounds like there is some dodgy code on the pages (no doubt ad related) that is causing this exception error. Can I ask what browsers you are using and if you are using any ad blocking code?

With this being an intermittent problem that I can't rectify it is really hard to diagnose, so bare with us on this one.

I've had more problems than usual over the last week or so. In my case, about 10% of the time that I click a link there's a pause of 20 seconds and then I get a message from my router/firewall saying 'Connection to www.pistonheads.com failed. (The server actively refused the connection)' or similar. I don't know exactly what this message means when my firewall shows it, but 50% of the time if I hit refresh to try again, it loads the page perfectly and quickly as normal.

It's almost as if one of the load-balancing servers is down. 10% of the time my HTTP request is handled by that server and it fails. Refreshing the page sends the request to a different server and that works perfectly.

My browser has never crashed with PistonHeads though, so my problem may be unrelated to the OP's. Hope that helps anyway.

Slow periods again, pages not loading and when they do they are losing all stylesheet formatting and are just white pages with text and basic HTML hyperlinks.

We are continuing the specialist monitoring tool over the weekend and then reviewing and actioning the issues over the next week.

So hopefully everything will slowly improve in the next week as we implement the performance measures.
