Just had this while browsing, nothing else open, all anti-virus stuff up to date

Tried to close it and it started another

Shut IE down and popped back on PH, all seems OK, was it from here ????

I'm not particularly IT geeky and it scared me a little, visions of my nice new laptop vanishing in a puff of smoke

I had the same thing happen to me this morning. I closed down IE8 and did a malware & virus scan but didn't pick anything up - strange, but all is OK now (touches wood).

Sounds like malware - stuff that pretends it's fixing viruses while charging you and doing who knows what.

Download and run malwarebytes antimalware.

Yup! I scanned with Malwarebytes and nothing found. Strange. I seem to remember this happening a few months ago and, the outcome was the same - no problems.

We had some problems with the classifieds but these are entirely unrelated to anything which is going on here.

If any of you see the pop up again can you post a screenshot so I can try and help you narrow down where it is coming from?

I had the same thing, I didn't think to take a screen shot though. I also found a dodgy File on my Laptop.

That's unrelated to the problems being discussed on this thread, and is simply occuring when the advert at the top fails to load.

worth getting a free account with www.opendns.com and block the adware / malware sites, have been to a few sites that used to use, only to find they no longer owned by same people and are used for drive by downloads
