The search function. Why is it always jiggered...

As it says really. It is becoming slightly tiresome...

They are using a monitoring system on the database so they can analyse the results and tweak the database to make PH run more efficiently.
Sadly the monitoring system screws up the search function.
Use google to search, just add "pistonheads" at the end, that's how I've got round it!

The main problem is really that the site has outgrown the search function and (although we keep patching it up as best we can) it really needs rebuilding from the ground up.

This is on the cards for the near future, but in the mean time the Google box on the search page is very effective, so it's well worth giving that a try (if you haven't already).

It's not as simple, but it can be done. What you need to do is look for the f= number in the forum URL (e.g. Website Feedback is f=24). Then when you are searching you need to type in +f=### (where ### is the relevant number for the forum you are interested in) after whatever you are searching for and this will limit the results to just that forum.

Reading that back, it's a bit trick to understand, so hopefully this will make things a bit clearer:

So to help those who find the google search difficult would it be feasible to add a help button or similar on the revised search page with the how and where and the relevant list of current fora perhaps ?
