'Readers cars - for sale'

Just an idea for a forum section really.

I want to buy a cheap runaround and it would be great if there was a place where I could scan cars that were for sale by PH people and find something that I liked. This would save on the dreaded search through autotrader and ebay and I would be able to look at people's profiles and assess them to a certain degree from previous posts etc. Chances are a PHer will be more agreeable to deal with and more knowledgeable and would have looked after the car better. We should be helping eachother and passing our treasured cars around more IMO.

I agree though I would like the ability to search for cars only advertised by members

If you are not so set on a specific car but would rather buy a car that is local, well presented and from a honest PHer then its' far easier to browse threads in a forum.

I have about 10k to buy a new runaround but I can think of about a dozen or more cars in that budget that id be happy trying out for 12 months or so. The hard part is searching for teh right one, travellingh up and down the country, being let down by inaccurate descriptions etc.. and generally wasting so much time trying to find something right. A readers cars for sale section would be a great asset.

It would make buyer/seller dispute threads more interesting.

A forum would be much harder to search than the classifieds, which let you put in a postcode and show only cars within a certain distance. The only thing which is missing is the members only filter, but that is something we are considering adding in the future.

first of all, you wouldn't search it

secondly, you could see at a glance, a whole list of cars on one page in the thread titles

you just middle mouse any that take your fancy to a new tab ... simple

The hardest part would be getting good discipline from users WRT the topic title.
It would have to be something like; make, model, year, price, mileage, postcode to make it useful as you describe. That's a lot of info to fit in the topic box and keep consistent.

Apart from being limited to members (and one post wonders) how would that be different to this example, generated using the advanced search:

Cars priced between £9k and £10k, within 10 miles of TW11, advertised in the last 7 days
