Hi,

I just responded to this ad Reference #2122883 (Land Rover Discovery) via email as the mobile number is wrong and got the following response...

Hi,

The car is still available for sale,it is in perfect condition in and out,100% HPI clear with a certificate to confirm, full service history.
I just got married and moved with my Italian husband in Milan,Italy.I took the car with me so the car is currently here.
I can`t use it in Italy because it has the wheel on the right side and it would also cost me too much to register it here.
It is still registered in the UK and since I have absolutely no use for it I am looking for a fast sale( this is why the low asking price)
I can ship the car from here directly to your home address and I am also willing to cover all delivery expenses.
I look forward to your reply
Regards

...the mileage in the ad doesnt match the photo of the dash either. Please advise anyone you know about this.

thanks

I've cc'd them seperately with a copy of the full correspondance. As nice as the car looks, alarm bells rang out at the response.

Good work. The faster we can get this out there to the people, the sooner we can save mankind from this horrific menace.

Oh, and has anyone clicked the report to admin button yet? Suppose we ought to do that before we get too carried away.

I was hoping that my first post on PH might be about something other than scamming but anyhoo.

Recently I've been looking at something a little more sensible to replace my civic type-r while I go away for a few months.
I thought a fabia VRS would be a good compromise so decided to have a look. Today I noticed a nice example at a more than reasonable price (Reference #2122851) so tried to give them a ring.. and the phonesafe number didn't work.
I then sent an e-mail to the address stated on the advert and recieved the same response as the OP to the letter.

Anyways I've reported it to the mighty admin team, taken the precaution of letting everyone in my phonebook know and also updated my facebook status to warn people of this menace ; )

oh yeah almost forgot to introduce myself.

All the best folks, from one of your newer PHers, Jay : )

You big chicken, you should be sorting this plucking problem yourself and telling everyone to keep an eagle eye out for other scams; these vultures have no morals...

There are a couple of easy ways to spot a scam at the moment.

  1. Price is a little bit too good to be true
  2. Phone number doesn't work
  3. They ask you to email directly (so we cannot send out warnings to the people who have contacted them
  4. Car is out of the country and you will send the money to a shipping company/escrow service/payment protection plan
  5. They want you to use western union/moneygram/etc to send cash.
If you spot the above hallmarks then you can be pretty certain what you are dealing with. Please report them so that we can make sure they are banned and that we warn everyone we can.

We also have a fraud warnings page here: http://www.pistonheads.com/classifieds/fraudwarnin... with more information on what kinds of scams we have seen in the past.
