I don't know why my thread got closed

was closed (in a very friendly manner by a very friendly mod)

but I am confused about why it counts as advertising. I have some items that I would like to get values for, I am clueless about bikes, I just want rid of the bits but I don;t know what to advertise them for. I even explicitly state that I am not selling them in that thread.

what am i supposed to do?

i know, i have no problem paying for advertising, i just have some items that i would like to get valued... how can i do that without falling foul of the advertising regulations?

To answer your question it looked like an advert veiled or otherwise.

As veiled ads are frowned upon it was therefore deleted.

Sorry about that.

Reason I shut it was that although you didn't see it as an advert, everyone else did, and as expected you already had people emailing you for further info.

In order to stop this happening more, we have to take a hard line - otherwise as I explained, I'd have all sorts on that forum 'checking for value'...

yep, understand totally. What you suggest would be good because i think there is place for legitimate discussion of values. Not only in this case but, perhaps more relevantly here, of the values of people's cars. It is information that i guess people want and it would if there was a way that it could be made permissible to discuss
