Query regarding the classifieds

Looking at the classifieds at a specific vehicle, then Sort: Advert Age


How are dealer ads (which don't list the advert age) ordered into the pack?

Do they have an 'advert age' criteria against them that just isn't visible (why not?) and are still put in order of age, or are dealer ads just randomly placed into the listing (as they seem to be interspersed with the regular ads that do have a 'age' listed against them.)


Also, what is 'sort by popularity'? Number of viewings of that advert perhaps?

The age of dealer ads is tracked and the appear in the correct place, it is just not displayed. This is because advert age is less relevant when dealing with the trade, they tend to remove the advert if the car is no longer in stock and are likely to relist it if it expires rather than taking a cheeky offer to get rid of it.

We do not track views of adverts precisely any more, but do have a rough counter and this is used to power the "sort by popularity" option (although I'm not sure if anyone uses it any more!)

It would reset to zero every time they relisted the car anyway, so wouldn't tell you much at all.

Why would they re-list the car anymore than a private seller would?

If anything, I would have thought that a private seller would be more likely to re-list as they are concentrating on a stock of 1.

Because a dealer will be quite likely to have a car in stock for more than 30 days, whereas a private seller will normally want a sale within a few weeks.

Another query on the classifieds, how do you 'reset' the timescale that is listed on the classifed ad? (i.e. without creating a new advert from scratch?)

I've seen it done where a link posted on a thread some weeks ago, brings back a classified ad that is showing as "advert age: 2 days"

Once an advert expires, you can relist it and it will count as a new advert.
