Ive found a car I like that is surprisingly cheap so I emailed the seller and she got back to me saying that the car was in good condition, hpi clear, FSH but said she was currently in Australia for 4 months hence selling the car and that pistonheads would deliver the car and give me the presigned V5 form and she would pay the expense.

Bear in mind this car would normally go for £8000 and she is selling it for £4500.

Is this fraud or do Pistonheads do this service?

No they don't offer this service. All they do is advertise the cars, there is no responsibility or affiliation with the seller of any kind

The PH fraud alert should help make things clear for all.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/fraudwarnings.asp

Please do take the time to read it.

And just to make clear for anyone who may not be aware - PistonHeads hosts the classifieds and that's as far as their responsibility goes.

Of course there's dodgy folk out there, trying to fleece us at any opportunity - but if there's a £10k car up for sale only £2k; then you know there's something dodgy.

The PH fraud warnings goes some way to help highlight those.

http://www.pistonheads.com/sales/fraudwarnings.asp

And this latest one is like AutoTrader holding the cars somewhere centrally; and holding/selling them on behalf of sellers. The Haymarket car would be pretty stuffed with about 95k+ cars for sale eek

The same applies to PH holding money, or being a guarantor; or anything else .... they DON'T

This has been done to death and people still need to ask. If it looks too good to be true it most certainly is, makes it even more clear if they are in another country and offer to cover costs for you.
