Ignor feature?

I have noticed other forums have this feature.

The rust proof my MX5 thread has just remined me of this.

Is it possible?

See if we had this feature you could ignore me because of my spelling.

Edit sorry yes, the feature I have seen allowed you to click on a persons name and from then on you never saw a single post of theirs again

A proper ignore feature would be awesome but I have yet to see one on any forum. They stop working when people quote them and they still show you that that person has posted and offer you the option to read it which somewhat defeats the object.

Silver has got it spot on here, Ignore functions are a nice idea but they don't (and can't) work in reality.

One forum I visit has it implemented in the form of 'friend and foe' lists. Contributions from 'foes' are collapsed in the thread, but there's a link which you can click on to expand them if required. It works very well for filtering out moronic posters, so would be just the ticket on here. They are using phpBB, which is open source freeware.

A possible alternative would be to add some of the really tired PH tropes to a swear filter so they get replaced with something like this: .

....or, you could skip the comments made by the person you wish to ignore?
permanently blocking someone isn't cricket imo.

I used to ignore caravan man a while back, but either he's changed or I've changed because now I think he's quite funny. still a grumpy old fella, but very amusing. and to think I'd now miss his postings if we had an ignore feature.

I doubt I'd block anyone for being grumpy - I would block them for having nothing going on in their head.

There are members some who can ruin a thread, with their posts & I would like to filter them out. (being practical, if they're quoted their posts will show in "my stuff"
Then there are members who I know will post crap & even though I know it will be drivel I'll still read it

I could put up with the quoting problem quite happily.

The forum would be so much easier to read because the posters I'd be ignoring rarely contribute to the sense of a thread. I'd risk missing the odd gem to see less worthless garbage like +1, mapped, back doors, Red Bull, send him an email etc.

I can guess what's about to happen to this thread. Boring! Not funny.
