Quoting on posts

I know I'm going to get quoted, but any chance we can reduce the number of quotes - it's getting stupid when using the mobile site to have to page down 10 times just to get to "Lol" or "+1". Then the same again! Perhaps think before quoting, or just cut the bit you need? or does the posting mechanism need changing? it makes visiting PH less of a quality experience than it could be. Thanks all.

Agreed, especially when someone has quoted a post that contains about ten photos. Even when you get to their reply it wasn't even worthy of a post.

A lot of forums moan when you quote the post above, seems to be the done thing here.

Might be worth suggesting if the site could automatically thumbnail pictures in quotes? That would help quite significantly. I guess the ideal solution would be to "fold" quotes more than two levels deep or similar, but I doubt the crappy PH software can do that.

I think on PH it happens alot because in busy threads it can be difficult to make it clear which post you are replying to - you can't always rely on the last post you read still being the last post when you hit submit. I agree that people need to be a bit more sensible about the quoting though and snip as appropriate.

But this is a good thing to do. So is using the person's username to agree with them, or saying "the above" if your post is directly after the one you're commenting on, or just not bothering with a quote at all if it's obvious what you're referring to.

I use the mobile site on occasion too, on a st little screen as well, and can completely see where the OP is coming from!
