Thanks to a little post-Christmas spirit we have been busy working through our "list" that we seem to always add to and never remove from. Well we have for once done some major work and it is listed below:


Performance Changes:

• Changed how the classified feeds run in the night, so instead of having to run during the next day (causing some image problems across adverts, and forum slow down) it now finishes earlier.
• Moved all front end classified database requests to a different shard (a different server), so that any time consuming classified database requests (e.g. Geospatial searches) don’t block the forum request speed.
• Stopped Google spidering some of the pages across the site which limits the amount of errors generated, and stops them firing unnecessary database and website requests.

SEO Changes:

• Headlines for news stories added to the page title.
• URL encoding fixed for several little bugs that caused an issue with passing the correct forum title

Page Bugs

• IE7 fixes for display problems across the site in classifieds, and in forums so consistent with other browsers
• PH Classic skin fixes to display the wiki pages correctly
• Formatting issues across the site and a few rogue encoding issues fixed

New Toys

• Quote just this post, or quote the whole quote trail buttons added
• Spoiler added to forum codes to make it work
• Member directory now shows the number found
• Auto redirecting for moved topics without needing an extra click
• Grace period when editing your post - if you just submitted something you can edit straight away without it adding the footer tag

How to use the new forum tags/buttons:

• Quote - This now just puts in that posters comments to the reply, and not the whole nested quotes.
• Quote All - This allows you to quote everything in that reply, including the nested quotes.
• Spoiler Tag - This lets you add a spolier to a page, this is done by surrounding the spoiler in a [ spoiler] tag. This doesn't work on the mobile site or preview at the moment, so use with care. We will monitor how effective this is.

Also, can't the image upload come out of beta now? It's not gmail..
