Do the mods have an opinion on when a subject becomes fair game for the joke thread? I.e. before someone may be sin-binned from that thread? Has anyone ever been sin-binned from that thread?

Perhaps mine today were a little early but this is consistent with past incidents / events / disasters etc.

I only raise this question as apparently today I am a tt.

As in, "how soon is appropriate after a disaster/tragedy before is appropriate to joke about it"?

Not really possible to have a specific view because it varies by the subject. A joke now about Ian Huntley's victims would probably still be beyond the pale, whereas I daresay that there will be Japan jokes before long.

We usually moderate that thread in response to a complaint; it is a given that some of the material in it will be close to the edge, so it is quite a subtle judgement job.
