Yoinks! "E-set" dialog box and "virus scan" on hitting reply

Just replied to the post in the lounge about alphabetical job titles and, on hitting Return to Topic, got a dialog box pop up with something about "E-Set" about to make changes to the PC. Hit the X, rather than Ok, but I still got a page doing one of those things that looks like Windows Explorer (C:Drive etc) and a progress bar.

Killed the page rather sharpish.

This is on Chrome btw.

Fully patched up Windows 7, Avast and AVG running, nothing alerted so hopefully all ok, but I'm running a full scan now anyway.

You can't. It happens after hitting Return to Topic. You click the link, screen goes blank as if about to load the topic afresh, then you get the dialog box. Thereafter you aren't on PH. So you don't know it's about to happen, if you follow me.

So it must be some JS injection that's happening before the page even loads.

I just got this as well. I was in the computer forum and in the "Can a mobile company" thread.

Also using Chrome with Win 7 fully patched and Avast up to date.

Thanks for the information, and please keep it coming, the more we get the sooner we can sort this. Our ads team are on the case now and are getting in touch with the company who provide the adverts. I will report back once I hear back from them.

Just had a flit around the site, keeping an eye on the ads, but nothing's triggered it thus far. As above, I suspect it's not something that one will be able to see, because it's hijacking on page load.

Never got the chance to see the banner ad's (whole page loaded before/as the PH thread loaded) but a quick google of e-set brings up an apparently recognised AV product.

It came up as some kind of firefox warning telling me it was detecting viruses.

I had this whilst opening a thread in General Chat. Using Chrome with Avast and Spybot.

Happened to me a few hours ago. Just general browsing of the forum. Shut down computer sharpish - run scan MSE and Malware and Spybot - nothing reported.

Had this happen a few months ago and it nearly killed my little netbook so keep everything updated and close down immediately when something suspect appears
