Why was my thread removed?

I'm posting this because I can't find an "e-mail admin" option anywhere. I just wanted to ask why my thread was removed on Computers and Gadgets, and to get some advice as to how I can make the post more acceptable to the PH rules.

The post asked for people's opinions of what my PC was worth. As stated clearly in the post, it was not an advert - two friends have already expressed an interest in buying my PC - I'm not at all interested in e-mails from people who want to buy it. I haven't placed an ad on PH or anywhere else in fact as it's not for public sale - these are two friends I know personally who live locally, and I'll be taking the PC round to them soon. I just simply want to know what it's worth so I can ask for a fair amount of money for it.

Could anyone advise how I can ask this question without having my post instantly removed for "advertising"?

You should have recieved a mail as to why it was removed.

However if it hasn't arrived yet it was probably because it contained too much information, PH usually frown upon "How much is it worth threads" and are just usually considered veiled adverts.

You could try classifieds or failing that a more specialised website.

Thanks for your reply, I received an e-mail stating that it was removed because it was, as you say, considered a veiled advert. It wasn't though - I wanted to know the value of something I've already agreed to sell to one of two friends.

In answer to your second point, I don't wish to try classifieds because I'm just after a value, I've agreed a sale already.

I guess I'll have to do what you suggest last, which is to find, register for and then post on another forum.. I'll probably just get the same response though - have it considered a veiled advert and have it removed. Is it not possible to just ask what something's worth?! On any forum?!

The problem is not genuine "What's it worth?" posts such as yours, but the fact that if we allowed them there would be a deluge of veiled adverts from those who are looking for a buyer.

In general, keep the amount of detail low so that it doesn't read like an advert and we'll tend to let it slide but mostly we just recommend looking in the classifieds for something similar that is already for sale and basing your price on that.
