Ever considered forwarding to a single prefix?

My troubles are thus:

I use www.pistonheads.com and am logged in there and everything is wonderful.

A friend uses pistonheads.com and whenever he sends me links without the www I read the post and click on reply and OHNO I'm not logged in, because my login cookie is for www.pistonheads.com

The usual solution to this problem for most websites is that most prefixes are just redirects to a central one.

e.g. on my site I have <site>.com and <site>.co.uk and www.<site>.co.uk all forward to www.<site>.com on entry.

Would you ever consider doing this? It would save me typing www about 10 times a day, and would take 6 minutes to implement.

You should still be logged in, regardless of which url you are sent to. Which browser are you using?

edited: ahh, see what you mean, just tried it again on .co.uk and asks me to login

Solving the logged in/not logged in problem is on the to-do list, but unfortunately not a priority at the moment.

In the mean time, have you considered just logging in to pistonheads.com as well as www.pistonheads.com? There is nothing stopping you from being logged in to both and it would stop you having to edit the URL each time!

Wouldn't a simple 301 redirect from the other URLs (e.g using a .htaccess file) solve this pretty easily?

It would, but for some reason (which I cannot remember) we do not want to do it that way...

the only other way to do it (that I can think of), is changing the domain on the cookies to something like .pistonheads.com (or something, it eludes me), but the 301 htaccess thing is much neater.
