Ok..had a major softwareupdate earlier this week. Went to Bluewater today only to have the Indicators pack up. FFS Mclaren. £200 k of car thats 1 week old and now the B****y indicators pack up. So another trip to the Garage next week. I am rapidly losing my patience with it. Anyone else had this problem???

Sorry to hear this mate.

Hope they get it sorted ASAP or it may be time to tell them you may need to take more decisive action.

Fwiw, the car is truly epic once you get it running right!

Is it a 12C or 650? Sorry to hear that you have had a bad experience. My 12C has been faultless and feels really well put together - 8,000 miles since new last November. I heard some of the earlier cars were less than reliable, is yours one of those? I'm hoping that my positive experience is not 'abnormal' and I won't be developing gremlins down the line - would get very tiring quite quickly.

It is the red 12c that was sat unregistered for a long long time in the london dealership i believe. That possibly has contributed to some of these early problems he is getting compared to cars used regularly. The earlier cars afaik were all fixed and running ok (even the very early ones) with the exception of a few very very rare rogue cars which i assume were taken back by the factory when offered to swap.

No it's brand new. It was I am told the last volcano red one made. Chassis no 3058. I am just frustrated that it should have these stupid faults.

Hi Geoff,

sorry to hear of your continued 'small' but annoying teething issues.

I picked mine up yesterday from McLaren Birmingham and did a 300 miles journey back home.
My car is a 2012 model and had 6,000 miles on the clock when I pulled away.

No issues so far :-)
The car is fantastic from a driving, handling, performance perspective. I like the seat (nice compromise between bucket seats and more comfy seats) and driving position is spot on. The ergonomics are well engineered although it could have done just with the volume on the steering wheel.
The noise is very different from my old V12 Vantage. Less melodious but very rewarding at high revs.

However, I am deeply disappointed with the IRIS system... I have IRIS 1, not IRIS 2 and I am amazed that McLaren even considers put cars on the road with IRIS 1.
I know early buyers got a free satnav and I understand why !

Coming from Aston Martin ownership, you can't even try to make any sort of comparison with my previous B&O setup....
With the standard settings, I thoughts there was actually a fault and that my iPhone was the one trying to play the music !!!!
Playing with the settings, moving the balance towards the rear actually gives a decent rendering but it is not in the league it should be in.

And then if you start adding the sat nag on top, well it is too much for the poor thing. It does not blend music and directions together. Coming back to the music is just pain full to hear with white noise to accompany the change.... It sometimes stop giving directions and it is difficult to get it going again (may be I do not know how to best use it yet).

IRIS 2 owners ? Does IRIS 2 solve these issues ?

The IRIS spoils a little bit the experience but, obviously, I bought the car for its performance and driving experience and from that perspective I am very happy !

Hi Geoff just read your other thread on picking your car up and how you are using Sevenoaks. Maybe if there is a choice you can try another dealer or even ask mclaren to take it back to factory. Without trying to add oil to fire I had my Bentley supersports in with Sevenoaks service for a constant brake squeal and they came back with they all do that sir but was subsequently fixed by an independent. Maybe just simple plug in diagnosis is okay but you probably need some more experienced people to sort what appears to be a complicated software/wiring issue

Iris1 is a bit crashy, especially on the satnav. The music functions were always ok though for me but i also never bothered to connect my phone to the system which i have heard was a bit iffy. Iris2 is much better nav wise i reckon but in all honesty i think i would just use a tomtom/garmin given the cost of the the iris2 upgrade. Am surprised the mclaren dealers are not selling used cars with the upgraded units already.

For the music settings i did manage to mess around with the settings that it was ok...not great but more than acceptable. Better than the bmw harmon kardon/porsche bose units anyway.

IRIS 1 was complete and utter rubbish. I replaced it as soon as I could. I have had no problems with IRIS 2 so far, it just seems to work. You need to replace IRIS 1 or it will drive you completely and utterly mad...

if you contact your Mclaren dealers they will provide the Iris update FOC. it is far superior to IRIS 1. Now mine is updated it is different again. Much better. You need to make sure that you keep up to date with all the updates. That has become immediately apparent. I know i have moaned about the car but it is a fab car to drive when it's all working. It is just si frustrating when stupid little things go wrong when they shouldn't.

Nope. Iris2 is an entirely new unit. It is NOT simply an issue of a software upgrade from the original iris1 unit. Iris2 has had a few software upgrades.

Mclaren already provide that as you well know but if you want to pay me for additionally doing so i am sure i could come to an agreement to do so........

I think you will find i have taken an interest in the cars and company in general and having owned the car for just a bit longer than you, i feel able to comment on certain issues (iris1/2 where i have had both units in this example) where i might have more experience on which does not equate to 'know everything about Mclaren'.

The guy is just trying to be helpful?? Maybe some of that attitude directed at your dealer would be more in order.

Doesn't come across as humour, quite frankly.

Unless you managed to get a deal that none of us have been offered, I think you will find the FOC upgrade offered is a software update for IRIS 1, IRIS 2 is a new system completely and they remove the old unit and install a new one. From memory its circa £2.5K
