both cars were on it, trust me. 650S driver couldn't hear the 3-horn beep countdown of the SV above the exhaust notes of both, so as soon as the SV would take off, the 650 would step on it. redline in both cars thru the gears.

The 650S clearly lets the Aventador accelerate first to get the video footage.
Difficult to do a video from the McLaren looking backwards.
You can also see the McLaren reeling it in and overtaking it at the end if you are going to say this video is a drag race which is not

Not at all representative of a drag race

To be quite frank, a 6.5-litre naturally aspirated V12 over any Mclaren since the f1. Doesn't matter if it is called a Mclaren 650s or a 1650s.

Sorry, nowhere was it advertised as a DRAG race. but it definitely was a race smile

we normally run "from a roll" with the cars side by side. one car does three honks of the horn and then they're off. I understand that a proper drag race is from a dead stop (a "dig", as the yanks like to say,) but that's challenging to pull off on a highway. even when you're running late at night and with spotter/sweeper cars ahead for safety. not to mention much harder on the cars' drivetrains.

in this case, both cars' exhausts were loud enough to make the horn extremely difficult to hear. so the 650 driver would floor it as soon as the Aventador took off. a disadvantage for the Mclaren for sure, but as the video shows, the Mclaren could overcome falling behind initially. both drivers were foot to the floor until it was obvious there was a clear winner, and the car behind wasn't about to catch up.

the camera had a really bad mic, and the audio was really blown out, hence the music overlay. I know, I know... the best music is the cars themselves, but there you go.

here are some other similar roll races that we've done.

that: A) the 650 is quicker, at least in a straight line; and

B) the SV is far far far sexier than any Mclaren (bar the P1 & F1)... and that's BEFORE the blue flames!!!

It proves that some mindless fools are too tight to pay for track time.

... and Lambos aren't allowed on track because they involve corners.

I suggest you google the SV's ring lap time and see how close it got the holy trinity who all cost 3 times as much when new and much than that now.

Lots of corners ar the ring last time I was there..

gotta love the internet and all the love on here!

yes, the mindless fools can be tight. but sometimes, just sometimes, we can open up our pocketbooks a bit. like the time we organized an event at an airport-- inspired by the UK's own "VMax", I might add-- and donated 100% of the proceeds to the victims of Typhoon Haiyan. https://youtu.be/6mA0URi4lfo

or the second time those mindless fools organized this sort of event, this time donating 100% of the proceeds to a hospital for children. https://youtu.be/ncwZROYx3JU

we were planning on doing it again, but then realized it's not nearly as much fun as hurling insults from behind a keyboard, so why bother, eh?

peace, mate! what a tough crowd!!! smile

Looks like the Aventador SV may have had a bad driver. Looking at the best sprint times for each model, the SV is faster to 60mph, faster on the 1/8mile, and faster on the 1/4mile than the 650S.

Yes, perhaps a little strong, my apologies. I do find this type of behaviour a little immature.

Irresponsible speed kills.
Take it to the track.

Just words then.

Never had a go with a mclaren but wonder if the sv was in sport rather than corsa judging by the flames which it does much less of in corsa. Corsa is quite a bit faster.

I'd also suggest you check the Huracan time around the TG track from the old series it was more or less the fastest thing around the track that wasn't heavily track focused. Modern Lambo's do handle very well even if certain Journo's would have you believe otherwise!

Putting to one side the wisdom of organising such an event, the result doesn't surprise me. Have driven Aventador, Huracan and 488/458 on track - but bought a 650S Spider. It is a phenomenally well rounded car. Exceptionally comfortable and practical to drive as well as blisteringly quick with terrific handling. I've several other na V12s but if I could keep only 1 car it would be the 650.
