Nothing gets close for the money. To think you can pay £100k for a Ferrari F430 or a Lamborghini Gallardo which seem more than a generation apart is incredible so therefore it is a relative Supercar bargain.

Such a shame McLaren rushed it to market and cocked up the launch as its taken 5 years to get the recognition it deserved.
Purely down to the low production volumes I believe 12C/650S could become collectable and values remain firm as McLaren demand increases.
As with Alistair Bols I can't see these cars falling below £100k and 12C will always prop up 650S

For me, the problem is the use of the word "bargain". The market doesn't get things wrong. If a 430 is £100k, then it just proves that there is more demand for it. Hopefully things will one day change, but for now, demand is weak.

I can kind of understand people who only post biased positives about their cars as it's probably because they are smitten with them etc. But I really can't understand why if you dislike every McLaren so much you keep posting on the board.

Please don't misunderstand me - I'm not saying you shouldn't, I just don't get why. Surely there is something more positive you could focus on?

Out of interest I did a quick search on your latest replies. I reckon there is a pattern!

Ps nice article and also like the owners' write up. Edited to add: the Orange 12C looks gorgeous and a bit different to other 12Cs I've seen. I had to look closely but it seems to have a different front bumper/splitter which I think really works. Any idea if this is a McLaren part or something aftermarket!?

Just helping to give a balanced view. The 12C would have been a massive hit had it been priced lower when new, and not actually more than the 458 which had ceramics as standard and a 4 year warranty and 7 year service plan.

The 12C is a fugly car, with a brand noone has heard of, and not particularly reliable, but it is articles from banner magazines like TG which often ignite upward price rises in supercars or classics. Dealers and auctioneers read such high-profile articles and collude and use them as reasons to inflate asking prices. Wouldn't be a surprise to see the 12C tick up a bit in 2017.

TP321 is a bit lonely on the Ferrari forum these days and looks like I will have to up the anti to balance it out. Why would you want to price a superior, better quality, and more exclusive product cheaper. Its priced accordingly however the launch was rushed and the brand does not yet have the same following as the prancing horse but its closing all the time with conquest sales.
Just look at the number of ex Ferrari and current Ferrari owners on here buying into the McLaren brand and once your in you won't be leaving in a rush.

They shot themselves in the foot with the launch of the 12c. It was priced too high, lacked enough "emotional factors" (looks, noise), and they flooded the market, not giving the car the chance to win over enough sales to support residuals. Even with all the fuss on here, that orange one with 28k miles is still unsold at £103k. There is your proof that it has a long way to go to even approach the prancing horse in terms of appeal.

And yes it does make a case for itself now at £100k when its competition is a 430 with 490bhp and the Gallardo with 500bhp and single clutch gearbox....

What are you talking about?
Brand no one has heard of? really? If nothing else you clearly have no interest in motorsport.
colluding auctioneers ? where, when?
On what basis are they not reliable?

You should have gone to specsavers.......and educate yourself - how can you not have heard of McLaren - you must have water running through your veins..... Let me guess you drive a Volvo?

I think you have to take some things said on here with a pinch of salt.
Those that are critical would often love to have one all day long really, especially at £100k, but rather than admit it, its easier for them to constantly knock it somehow making them feel better that they haven't got one nor probably even driven one in the first place.

There is far too much hype attached to the prancing horse and you pay through the nose for all that brand appeal. If that's your thing ie inflated prices for an inferior product purely because its got a brand name, well that's fine but don't knock the competition unjustly just to make your choice seem rational in any way.

I've been brought up with Ferrari, own one currently and sold several more including F430 F1 spider and 430 Scuderia and I can assure the 12C is light years ahead of a standard F430.
If it was a boxing match it would be called off as a total mis match and no contest

The orange 12C in the TG feature is the 50th Anniversery limited edition (50 coupes and 50 spiders) and they all came as standard with the MSO front bumper/splitter.

Just to point out the unsold car at £103 has done 28k miles, not that McLaren are overly mileage sensitive.

I don't agree. If they did this they would have sold the same number of cars. The only difference is that you would be here now, 5 years later telling that McLaren sold themselves short and this is why residuals are through the floor.

Funny how this type never show their own cars in their profile.
