Picking up a 650S spider tomorrow, but this one doesn't have lift. I'm led to believe it's not a huge problem, but, what's the feeling on skid plates and the like?

Hope you don't have a carbon fibre front splitter. The car is low and the carbon fibre very expensive. Use the front lifter on mine all the time for speed bumps so the skid plates might be essential if you don't want to be scraping the front

Congratulations on your new purschase

Lift is very useful, I use mine for speed bumps etc, you should cope without but it will occasionally make you wince.

They have air channel vanes fitted near the front wheels (underneath the car) even with lift I end up replacing mine every service (£80).

You can get away without one but expect the odd bang. I have it but don't always use it.
If going abroad on the Eurotunnel you will bottom out on the ridiculous ramp at passport control as you go out, makes a dreadful noise!

My 12C doesn't have lift but had I no problems at Eurotunnel. The ground clearance is the same as the 650S at 99mm.

I always figured the point of the lift was for the 1% when it is an issue.

Did you encounter that 1% problem time and, if so, how did you handle it or what happened when you didn't handle it?

Left hand lane going through the passport kiosks on the way out, the yellow rubber hump. I've come down on it twice, both made me wince.

(Yes I know "twice"! Wasn't concentrating)

Shot sharp speed bumps......very slow (10 mph), waiting for the noise when the bottom hits/ scrapes.
Ferry crossing - very very slow, support from the "Ferry man"....timed it with the up and down swell (to eliminate as much of the ramp angle as possible)

Avoided all multi storey car parks.

As above, front-lift makes the driving experience for such cars more enjoyable (unless you like a "raw" challenge).

You can get an aftermarket noselift fitted for about £5-10k.

Haven't need it in 3600 miles but would have it anyway given the choice.
