Thoughts on these two please
Discussion
Hi,
I’m considering restarting my search for a McLaren.
I really like Volcano Orange and have found a couple of cars at McLaren Leeds.
The first is a 1 owner 2018 540C
http://www.preowned.mclaren.com/used/2018/McLaren/...
The second is a 4 owner 2017 570GT
http://www.preowned.mclaren.com/used/2017/McLaren/...
Interior specs are very similar. Alcantara, McLaren Orange stitch, Carbon.
540 has McLaren Audio, GT has BW 12 speaker.
Exterior the GT has cf mirrors and full ppf, not just partial ppf. No ppf on 540
I know of a warranty claim on the GT (Corrosion) but don’t know if there is anything else on either car.
Assuming no preference for either body style what are people’s thoughts on spec/price and which would you go for and why.
I’ve no real idea how much either car would’ve been new.
For some reason I’m drawn to one more than the other but really like the look of both.
Could 4 owners be an issue when it comes to selling the GT on ? I’d be the 5th owner.
Is 4 owners in 2 years too many?
Car is for road use only, no track use.
Thanks for any thoughts/comments/advice.

The colour and spec of both cars are good; i can definitely vouch for Volcano Orange
The 570 seems to me the car i would choose; its got a better spec; they both seem 2017 cars though? Owners on here shall be able to tell you the main differences between a 540 and 570 regards to pros and cons of each...
How many Ferraris or GT3s are out there with 4 owners in 2 years; more than you would imagine.
If you were planning on keeping for 3 or 4 years the number of owners to age ratio will balance out, so not something that would overly concern me.
Both have at least a full years warranty, so your covered there and they are both coming From a McLaren main dealer; you will have your consumer rights to reject if you buy and the 4 owner car is a 4 owner car due to problems.
Pay a deposit by credit card so that if anything goes wrong you can get them to step in for up to 180 days; it covers way more than whatever your size of deposit it is and saves you having a battle on your own if there is a problem.
It does seem that McLaren are pretty good with sorting things out though, so i most likely it wouldn't come to that.

I would say 4 owners in 2 years there's something wrong considering how a GT should be a car to put mileage on and keep at least 1 year?
I don't think anythings wrong as such but worth checking the duration of each owner, maybe a pre reg which would account for 1 of them and if 2 have had for 2 x summers and sold on then it doesn't seem so bad. Don't forget these types of cars can go through multiple owners, quite normal but depends on your view. The 540C will always be the unloved baby of the range (not putting it down) and the GT is less popular than the S but both still fabulous cars.
My favourite colour too, good luck with either if you go for one.

.
Bit harsh.. but then I'm biased. .
The 540 is a cracker. My argument would be for the same money as a 570S you get a newer car (with additional warranty) and no real world performance loss. I was told the mapping is slightly different but not sure how true that is.
Either way, they are all great cars. I'd be more persuaded by colour, options etc
I actually think the GT is the better looking

It's perception more than reality being the lesser cheaper car. In real life it won't be any slower nor inferior to the 570 range. The 540 is a cracker. I'd happily have one instead of a 570 but maybe come resale it will be hit that bit harder on value or on the other hand it'll be that much lower in price that the buyer's affordability opens the market up a bit.
Thanks for the comments guys.
355spiderguy your 650 looks amazing. Hope you’re enjoying it.
It’s the GT I’m leaning towards as I think the rear styling looks nicer. 540 still a lovely looking car.
justin220, I can see your point about newer car for same money,it’s the way I was thinking initially.
Would hope to keep for around 3 years but could also be very short term if health stops me driving
Lots to think about.

Ahh well...570 has been sold...
Many thanks for your kind comments....i am loving every minute that i can spend in it, and even the moments i just get to look at it.
I spent far too long over analysing it all and now wish that i just got on with buying it ages ago!
The right one shall come up for you though...the 570 did tick a heck of a lot of boxes if it were myself though...

Try Admiral, they were best quote I got or there's AIB who I think sponsor the McLaren thread on here.

I tried my group insurance but they weren't happy with the McLaren fitted tracker so my 19 yr old whom just got an M3 convertible told me to try an online broker called Mustard...sure enough took about 5 mins to get great quotes and in the end went with Admiral of all places..less than £600 a year for much better excess and conditions than Adrian Flux offered me at double the price...if you have 10 mins give them a go...

McL Leeds are brilliant to deal with

Try Manning for insurance - they were most helpful and competitive for my McL

One advantage of Admiral is that they do not require a tracker to be fitted/used (well not for me in rural Leicestershire).
One disadvantage of Admiral is that they will wriggle and squirm when the claim is made. Sure enough, they will provide the “cheapest” quote to get you on the road, but when it’s time to cough up, the low insurance cost will be a distant memory. I’m talking from some painful experience with them. I’ve moved my insurance for three cars to a specialist provider.Targarama said:
