540c / 570s sports exhaust
Discussion
Hi All
I’m new to McLaren ownership having recently purchased a 540c.
First impressions are really good however one major area of concern is the sound.
My car has standard exhaust and tbh the lack of sound is really taking away from what otherwise would be a great experience.
I’ve made a few enquiries re Larini or the McLaren sports exhaust and have the offer of a second hand 570s cat back McLaren sports system.
However following discussions with McLeeds I was asked if I had the “sound generator” on my system , to which I hadn’t a clue so they sent me a picture of the part they were referring to.

This has the silver pipe coming from main exhaust whereas mine below obviously does not

Does anyone know what these pipes do, the service manager says fitting the cat back exhaust without changing these items also won’t work

The sound inside of the car is very suppressed due to the carbon tub although the outside sound is still rather lame with the standard exhaust. I replaced my 720S exhaust with a Larini, which sounds great, but isn’t loud to the point where I will pI’m new to McLaren ownership having recently purchased a 540c.

s off the neighbours. If you want big sound with flames, get a Brook Exhaust. If you join the McLaren Owners Club UK, there is a lot of threads covering the topic.Which cars have ISG ?
I read above you can turn it on and set it to a maximum? Which I reckon linked to a vid of McAtlanta explaining how to tune the exhaust noise if I rember well.
Not that I need it on my 600LT but just for curiosity as I asked McLaren when I was looking for a 570S...

The 570S has it, the 600LT doesn't. I'm not sure about the others.I read above you can turn it on and set it to a maximum? Which I reckon linked to a vid of McAtlanta explaining how to tune the exhaust noise if I rember well.

Perhaps the info below is of interest. Personally I hate it - just brings in vacuum cleaner (I mean, hoover) sounds into the cabin. I set it to minimum and lower the back light or the top.

Thanks 12pack - that explains a lot. So this system has absolutely no effect on external sounds, if I fit cat back system, as McLeeds said I would need it as well as the sports exhaust making it very expensiveMaxx-Waxx said:

It will cost approx £3.5K for a Cat back exhaust. You don't need to change / replace anything else.My 650 has a sports exhaust fitted which i was actually a bit apprehensive about it having, as the car was 400miles away so i couldn't actually find out what the sound was like until i went to buy.
On my 2 previous Ferraris, i fitted a Tubi first time round which was horrendous with a retonation droning noise constantly, and the last one i fitted a Capristo which at first sounded great because the car then sounded like an old school F1 car, but very quickly that joy wore off with such small things as not being able to hear what passengers were saying and don't even consider luxuries such as hearing the phone or radio, and after a longer journey, mild tinnitus.
I get that people want a sports car to be noisy, but to me any if any journey longer than an hour and the noise starts to get on your tits what's the point?
The sports exhaust on the Mac was fitted from new and i think its perfect...easy to have a phone conversation with roof up or down, sounds really nice giving it large driving from the drivers seat, and when my missus was following me in her rather mad spitfire sounding GLS63 on a dual carriageway, she said upon acceleration is was awesome sounding...so all in all a big thumbs up for the, i guess, MSO sports exhaust.
