Just did 4,630 miles (with more to come) in the mountains, cities, heavy traffic, and on the highway in the last two weeks across the 650S Spider & 675LT Spider. Number of issues: 0 .

Impressive (not necessarily the no issues, more the commitment to drive that far). How come you kept the 650 after getting the 675 - are you keeping them in different locations (I seem to remember some of your cars are in the mountains)?

The 650S Spider was kept in Texas and we just drove it from Texas to Connecticut. The 650S has also been my DD for the last 4 years. The 675LT Spider has been living up in Montana, We recently did a round trip in it from Montana to California.

That does sound like a lot of fun - enjoy in good health

Yep, this pretty much matches the experience I had with my previous 570S.

Purchased in March with 2.9k miles on the clock. Sold in August with over 9k miles on the clock. It went on a road trip to Scotland, the Nurburgring, Switzerland and was my daily driver in between. It never went wrong. Nothing broke and it had no software faults.

It visited the dealer once in my ownership to fix something I'd broken on it (I pulled off a part on the front wheel arch whilst washing it and I couldn't get to back on).

There's loads of similar fault-free experiences from people on the MOC. One needs to remember that people only tend to write and shout about things when they go wrong, so you tend to only hear of bad experiences. Indeed, the reputation that precedes McLarens nearly put me off buying one entirely but I'm glad I ignored it all because so far, they've been more reliable than most of the R8's, 911's and AMG's I've had.

Yep, I know it’s pretty few miles really, but 3500 miles across 2 cars in last 12 months, only issue was aircon on one needed regassing. No glitches, faults or odd behaviour.

It’s not all bad news for McLarens

Yes, I've been very pleasantly surprised to find my 720S has been more reliable than my BMW (i8).

The McLaren has had zero faults, issues, glitches in fact. (i8 has had 1 oil leak, and 2 failed fuel pressure sensors, and plenty of Bluetooth glitches to iPhone X.)

Indeed, it sounds like an awesome road trip. I expect that radar detector was useful? smile

I'm toying with the idea of shipping my 570GT over to the US for a roadtrip. It is sitting in storage at the moment while I'm living in Singapore. I love US road trips and after watching Schmee's recent videos I'm tempted to do it myself driving

I would strongly recommend getting one if you are going to drive long distances in the US. Speed traps are plentiful

I find it quite amusing that a £200k car requires a post to celebrate driving a few thousand miles without breaking down or anything falling off. hehe

Indeed. If I ran a super-reliable, low performance VW, I would find it amusing too. tongue out

Perhaps you should change your unreliable money pit for one then and see the funny side?

About a months depreciation should just about get you into a nice one. tongue out

Good idea. Will plan to do that when I get too old for a high performance car.

It's all relative. I don't have an issue with it being a money pit. Christ, I once had a 6.0 W12 A8. Very comfy, rather quick for a barge, but hell, did it absorb some money with repairs and residuals. Cost £90K new, was sold 7 years later for less than £15K - Now that was a money pit.

It was said tounge in cheek TBH, i have no issue with McLaren or any other car manufacturer, i just found the thread amusing due to there being so much surprise at such an expensive car being able to do a couple of thousand miles without anything going wrong.

12pack decided to get personal with the cars though so thought it only fair to retaliate. wink

Pretty sure his comment was also tongue in cheek. Also given lots of non-owners like to bang on about poor reliability the post makes sense.

There’s a similar post on the Aston Martin section about a chap having just done a Euro jaunt in his car and not having any problems either - so seems this isn’t an uncommon thread for owners of high performance cars...
