Just thinking into the future here.

Would respraying a bumper and bonnet need to be blended into the wings?

Or is it quite a tricky paint to spray?

It can be difficult to match. They couldn't match mine, but plenty of people have had perfect matches.

It’s impossible to match. And if you think it has been matched, view it under fluorescent lighting and you will see that it hasn’t been matched. Avoid Volcano colours for this reason

Interesting. I dont expect to be viewing it under flurescent light but I think the older paint manufacturer was harder then the new one that is used by Mclaren.

I've long been suspicious that McLaren colours are standard colours used on other brands of car but can't possibly tell which. I've a Memphis red 720s and I keep seeing nice red Kia's and Renaults in what seems to be similar and wondering if one of them is actually the same.

If I knew I might be able to get a bloody touch up stick!

Standard colours?

Have you realised almost all McL paints have pearlescent effect?

If anything, McL colours are the most unique.

Apart from few good Ferrari ones....Rosso Fuoco and Giallo triplo strato, I struggle to find paint as stunning as McL ones.

By standard I mean more widely available. You'd be amazed how many more mundane cars can come with pearlescent.

And quite a few McLaren's aren't. I had a McLaren orange 12c before and that was a 'flat' orange.

Don't get me wrong I love my Memphis red but there are plenty of 'lesser' cars with what appears to my inexpert eye to be similar.

Still don’t get it.

Are you telling me a Kia has a pearlescent red paint matching Memphis red?

bk! smile

And if it’s just a colour that you think is close....well, suggest you do a comparison under proper light.

Btw I know not all McL are pearlescent....

No, no. Im sure they are different but Im never in position to compare to see. I've seen shades of red on all manner of cars on the road or parked up that gives me this hunch that my car has a humbler racial brother somewhere in the car world.

I guess the only people who know are the paint suppliers and they won't tell us what it is or if it is exclusive to McLaren.
