Stick or twist, 650s
Discussion
Sounds generous TBH and not giving them a huge margin to retail on a slow moving car but depends on what you are buying and how long they have had it and how thar is priced.
Sense check it with WBAC and motorway and you might be surprised.
I enquired on a Porsche Boxster 4.0 GTS and was reluctantly offered £33k on a £60k retail car.
Motorway offered £43k and that was way too low for me.
OPC was deluded and won't sell anything if a px is involved

Guys, bought a 2015 650 on 18.5k from an Aston Martin franchise a year ago, very well Spec’d and I paid £95k, just been into McLaren for the big service and I’ve ppf’d the front.
Been into look at a new car and was offered 72k, is that about right?
Keep it, amazing car for the money. if you 'have' to sell then wait until spring and SoR it with a good specialist. Dealers are pricing in the risk & expense of having to keep cars in stock over winter or take low bids. Been into look at a new car and was offered 72k, is that about right?

In the current climate that’s a fair offer as think you’d struggle to get more selling it privately
I'm currently shopping for a 650S and would absolutely pay more than that for a good one, even privately if it got a clean bill of health in an inspection!People like me who are willing to buy supercars privately are a rare breed, but we do exist.
All that being said, based on the px to retail spread I'm seeing in offers for my car, and the sharp downward trend in 650S prices that I am seeing for sale, (and not knowing anything at all about the car other than age and miles), £72k seems like a fairly strong offer. I'd be pretty surprised if anyone offered more than that as trade in.

"sharp downward trend in 650S prices that I am seeing for sale"
Really? The average advertised price now is around £90k (£80k-£100k range - discounting outliers). When I was looking just over 4 years ago the average price was £110k ( £105-£115). That's a 20k drop in 4 years. Doesn't seem like a 'sharp downward trend' is occurring to me? In fact £5k pa depreciation over 4 years seems like very good value. And looking at 12C prices, worst case scenario is same again over next 4 years. They have simply gone back to pre-covid prices
I bought a too CF spec McL approved car in March 21, before the prices went mental, for £88k
They are back to that now.
But private ones at £75k and £79k are struggling as finance is so expensive now that you are really only appealing to the cash buyers and so they have all the power.
If I was in the market with cash, I’d be paying low £70’s on a private sale.
Would then be likely be able to sell it for more in the summer unless the economy continues to nose dive

Id be very happy with that, wasnt offered much more during peak prices on a very well specced 570s that i sold sor for a considerable amount more, so being the time of year, price drops i think thats very fair as a trade in.Been into look at a new car and was offered 72k, is that about right?

The £75-£80k cars are all low spec and all white with up to almost 50k miles. The well specced cars in decent colours start at around £90k. For low £70's you will get a basic spec, basic colour, above average miles car, which when the time comes will be equally as hard to move on. With McLarens, for some reason, everyone just values them to the lowest common denominator. I bought a too CF spec McL approved car in March 21, before the prices went mental, for £88k

Supercars are an emotive purchase (as you know) and almost all potential owners want something that they can have some pride in and get ownership satisfaction from. Which I guess why you bought a well specced car yourself. Yes all back to pre-covid prices, so no real change.

The sharp downward trend was in reference to the last 12 months, rather than longer than that.I have kept some records of advertised prices over the last year to track how they have moved. One year ago the median price for 650s in sale on Autotrader was only just under £100k (99900 to be exact). There was only one car on sale for less than £92k, which was priced at £89950.
Today the median price is just £92500, and there are 12 cars on sale for less than £92k and 4 cars for less than £80k, starting at just £75k. And most of that drop has happened in the last 6 months; even as recently as April there wasn't a single 650S anywhere for less than £85k.
For normally very stable cars that retain their value well that represents a sharp downward recent trend in prices.

I paid a healthy premium for a super high spec, A1 condition car and would not have accepted a lower spec, poorer condition car for any kind of £ saving
luckily for 650S, the real successor is the 720S Spider. and the lucky bit is those came out in the time of the great semi conductor supply constraint and thus there are very few of them available and thus are still commanding very strong money.
So, until those come down - there is nothing, short of the 600LT Spider, I would consider changing the 650S to
