Morning

I am in the market for either a 600LT Spider or 720 Spider and like the look of the 720 linked below but I can see that it has been for sale since April and has dropped £20k since first listed.

Is it missing a vital spec that I have missed or is this amount of time for sale the norm with these types of cars.

Thanks for your help

I can't see it state that it's the "performance" model anywhere, so maybe it's the luxury - and for some reason people don't like them. "Performance" is a misnomer, since the only difference was included options - and personally, I prefer the stuff that came with the luxury version - but I think they are much harder to sell.

If it's not that, I have no idea - looks like a very good price for a 720 Spider.

According to the main McLaren website it's a performance model although I didn't know about the Luxury / Performance impact on pricing.

I didn't link the main McLaren site as the price still shows £188,900 and hasn't been updated to £175,900 yet.

Luxury/Performance will not affect price, it's mainly down to if you want leather or alcantara, as that's the main difference between the two. It's simply trim and a few interchangeable options.

Lets not forget time of year, its the time when sales naturally drop and generally Spider versions of cars are in less demand, which could explain the reason it is also taking time to sell.

Now of course it could be more sinister and potential buyers are refusing now to pay more than a 20-30k premium for a Spider version, with 720S coupe available from circa 110-120k and trade been under 100k, other McLaren models generally have around a 30k premium maximum for the Spider version especially cars more than 2-3 years old, as its a 2019 car many potential buyers may just consider it over priced compared to coupe versions.

570S, 600 LT, 650S Spiders tend to carry a smaller premium for the Spider version, whereas 720S has always been higher but this might now just be correcting, time of year also not helping.

Thank you everyone for your replies.

I understand that this time of year sales and prices reduce but this car was available for sale in April which I thought would be a great time of year to go on sale.

Do 720's in general sit around for months at dealers usually? I don't know as I have only started looking over the past couple of weeks.

Thinks its missing the electro chromatic roof but apart from that its a performance spec car with all the right options as far as I can see

Lets be honest, the only 720s in the 110-120k bracket are leggy on the mileage or budget spec/lux interiors which puts a lot of people off and have been sat on the market for ages.

A good 720s is still 15-20k min over that and dont tend to hang around long.

I've been to look at it, mainly to help decide on whether or not I liked Red and Coupe or Spider.

Personally the flashes in seat and on the dash made it a non starter and I thought it very expensive. Now it's been reduced, it makes more sense.

It doesn't have any PPF and there chips on the bonnet and a scuff on the drivers side of the front bumper.

It does look stunning though, but I would want paint sorted when spending £175K, or £188K as it was when I saw it.

And at that price there are some interesting and newer cars around, there's the Paris Blue one at Alistair Bols (https://www.alastairbols.com/cars/mclaren-720s-perf-spider-in-paris-blue) at a close price and is a 2021 car, owned by PH member.

IMO it's fairly normal for cars to be for sale for ~3 months, and 6 months plus isn't unusual; the 570 I bought in March had been up for sale since around the previous September. Dealers will see if there's interest at a higher price for a few months, before dropping the price gradually until it sells.

Looks like a very nice car in a great color. As someone else mentioned, the alcantara interior indicates performance model...at least that has been my experience here in the States. Several years ago traded my 570 spider for a 720 spider. Get a PPI from Thorney and have the dealer correct any problems. I've had accumulators replaced, Infotainment system, V-module (oil filter housing) and windshield. The car is brilliant, if not somewhat scary.
