Hi - anyone able to offer an opinion on this? Harry Metcalfe suggested that the sports exhaust was a bit drony although I'm not sure he was actually able to compare it to the standard exhaust. To be honest, I have no particular desire to pay for the sports exhaust but wanted to hear other opinions.

Unless he confirms first hand experience, I'd take his comment with a pinch of salt.

There are a number of people on here that generally make negative posts regarding McLaren. In my opinion, Andrew would fall into that group.

Sports exhausts on a McLaren are effectively just loud blare, vs slightly louder blare.

None of the engines are particularly musical. Blame the flat plane V8 and turbos for that.

Simply depends how much attention you wish to draw, doesn't affect the performance or experience imho.

I already have a McLaren.....but the V6 Artura is a different beast and I don't have any first hand experience of sports vs non-sports exhaust for that engine. I was hoping that someone had!

Sorry don’t know about the Artura, but I much prefer the throbbing menacing NASCAR growl of a P11 car (with the top or backlight down) to the flatulence of Italian V8s or the industrial sounds of German ones where it counts - inside the cabin.

Perhaps something to check out yourself on the Artura, especially if it’s a spider.

Think I’ve tried every combo now with decent seat time. The options are sport vs standard, and then MY25 vs anything prior. The changes in the MY25 exhausts are significant, not sure why the journos didn’t comment much - coming from 18mo in a ‘24 model it’s very obvious.

My view is the pre-25 sports exhaust is fine, the standard is a bit lacking. Mostly the same noise but just not enough volume on the standard, especially at higher revs. The 25-on ones are honestly both fine. I’d say the standard is about on par with the pre-25 sports exhaust in sound quality (although not physically the same to be clear, it’s very obvious through the rear grille), and the sports is what the car should always have sounded like at full pelt.

[edit: if you’re buying new and care about resale, fwiw 90% of cars seem to spec the sport so standard might hurt more than usual on the used market]

I think the new Artura(guessing with sports exhaust) is the best sounding Mclaren full stop.

How does the exhaust amplify the electric noises then??? I found them inaudible in the Artura if engine was running.

He’s either trolling or an imbecile. Or both, this is the internet after all!

Curiously, he seems to have deleted his posts - including the one where he was upset with me.

When I was at McLaren Hatfield last week discussing the latest model line up it was mentioned by the brand manager that with the new exhaust arrangement on the 25MY Artura that the elctrical noise is more noticeable and some customers who had experienced both had expressed a prefernce for the older cars because of that issue.
I don't know if there is anything in that and one would have to have experience of driving both the older and newer version of Artura to be able to judge it.

Did he have some old stock to shift?

I test drove the artura without the sports exhaust at ascot but ended up getting the one with at Hatfield. The sound is just louder with the sports exhaust but still quieter than a cold start on a car without. The sound is obviously not a patch on say a lambo/r8 but then it’s only a 6.
Exhaust noise is the major thing that lets the Artura down imo.

I was there looking at a 570S and 600LT, idly chatting with a coffee and standing next to a brand new Artura Spider. I asked what were the general improvements on the 25MY car over the earlier years.

A lot of folks say the GT with the sports exhaust is the best sounding, it's certainly deep and rich sounding, quite a classy sound but then it's a GT!

I like the sound of the Artura though, I've only ever played with a '23 car with sports exhaust though, would like to hear the '25 for comparison.
