So, everything else being equal (conspiring spec etc) if you had the choice between the following colours which would you choose and why;

Sicilian yellow
Curacao blue
Storm grey

Just interested in thoughts on the colours and potential resale

1) Sicilian Yellow
- bright colour so it makes the black bits pop
- suitably bright colour for a supercar
- launch colour for the Spider
2) Curacao Blue
- fairly unusual colour
- bright but not OTT
3) Storm Grey
- boring colour for a supercar
- perfect colour to disappear into the tarmac visually when approaching a T-junction at (cough) 60mph

however it depends what you want, if you're not comfortable with attention then Storm Grey would be just the ticket.

Of course this is personal taste. My own taste is that I am a bit bored of grey cars everywhere and a splash of colour is a good thing.
Yellow might be a bit bright for me but that again is just personal taste.

SY would be my pick.

CB looks a bit flat and cheap to my eyes.

Colour is needed on a supercar, in fact any car IMO, but especially a supercar.

Blue. Nothing to do with resale value, just my favourite colour.

Out of those I’d take yellow. Grey is always going to be a bit Meh and although I am sure there must be exceptions, I’ve never thought blue was a particularly great colour for a supercar (or at least not a colour where a different one wouldn’t be better)

Thanks all so far.
I'm considering all 3 at present and like them all depending on the mood I'm in smile

The yellow is lovely, a real deep pearl but looks flat on the photos as below;

Saw curacao Artura yesterday and it did look incredible in the bright sun, if you look at the car or below pic through sunglasses it goes turquoise. It is though a flat paint rather than metallic.

Storm grey is a really nice deep metallic but does fly under the radar (a good thing i guess at times) but does suit the car;

1st world decisions I know... I'm erring to yellow, then blue, followed by the grey.

I'm not a fan of that shade of blue - enough so that I don't think I'd buy a car in that colour.

For me, it would probably be yellow at the top, then grey. The only issue with yellow is that McLaren's attract a huge amount of attention anyway, and yellow will only make that worse. I wonder if I was actually buying, if I might choose the grey for that reason.

Through my eyes, McLarens look best in bright vibrant colours. The darker coloured aero - spoilers, side blades and air intakes contrast so well with the bright colours of the main bodywork / paint. Aero generally comes in three finishes 1) carbon fibre 2) palladium 3) black-pack. The aero stands-out against the brighter colours.

From the three options you ve listed, for reasons as explained above, I d dispense with the grey - it s dark grey. I d be hard pushed to choose between the yellow and blue, but would probably go with the blue because it s unusual. Both the yellow and blue are a high-gloss finish, which highlites the contours of the bodywork. I once had a French racing blue XKRS (similar to high gloss curaçao blue) which looked bloody marvellous on the Jaags curves. Friends would take the pi$$, calling it baby blue.

The brighter the colour, the more interest the car will generate. If you are self-conscious, go with a dark colour. I have Mantis Green, with its gold flake, being one of the more extreme McLaren paint finishes. Sometimes it gets too intrusive when people literally drive alongside taking photos, or white van man tail-gating inches off the rear bumper taking photos. I would imagine that the yellow or blue will have a similar effect.

Edit: the two dark spots are flies attracted to the colour.

Obviously all personal taste, no wrong answers, etc, but here's my view.

I think it depends a little how much of an extrovert you are and how much you want to stand out, but also to a certain extent how much it works with the shape of the car. Personally I am not buying a McLaren to blend in and hide, it's a big, bold, brash supercar and it shouldn't be shy about that. Here is the number of cars registered in the UK last year by colour:

Grey 558050
Black 464369
Blue 306349
White 265462
Silver 127383
Red 116576
Green 99793
Yellow 10725
Orange 9614
Mauve 5711

About three quarters of the cars on the road are black, white or something in between, so I'm going blue or yellow. Between those particular shades I'd say yellow. I have no problem with blue, my 650S is blue, but I think a darker shade suits it better.

Thanks all. Echoes my thoughts smile

The blue and yellow are identical spec. Only difference is the blue is 16k miles and the yellow 28k.

There's a 3k price difference between them (blue higher).
Yellow has a massive history file, not seen the blue yet but it does have full MD history.

Both would be inspected by mclaren (yellow would be mc Brum & blue Mc hatfield) both with a view to putting a years warranty on, just for 1 year assurance for myself.

I'm erring towards the yellow one despite the mileage.

Try not to put too much weight on the MD inspection. It’s simply a box ticking exercise for them. If you can, arrange for an independent inspection. I was recently at an independent where a 570S was being inspected. There was a chipped (chunk) carbon ceramic disc and paint bubbling along the inside of the drivers door (hidden by rubber seal). The car had already been inspected by MD. The chipped disc could have been caused during the previous MD inspection when the wheel was put back on (resting / catching wheel on disc).

Personally, I wouldn’t be put off by 28K miles if it’s got a thorough history file. Tip: check the service history to see if the 20K clutch filter and clutch oil has been done. It’s sometimes overlooked.

Thanks, if specialist it would be Rennsport in Stevenage or Litchfield in, erm, Lichfield.

Thorney are booked out for them for over a month and I know the 2 i mentioned have a very good reputation with ex mclaren techs working at each

Litchfield is on the outskirts of Tewkesbury, Gloucestershire, not far from Cheltenham. Named after Iain Litchfield - the founder. Litchfield is mainly known as Nissan GTR specialists but have a fantastic reputation and an impressive facility. I took my first 720S to them for some work, back in 2020 (I lived very close to them).

There s Jack Webb Motorsport or RE Performance as well. I know JWM do inspections (did one for me) but not sure if REP do inspections. Ricky Elder at REP is a top bloke and knows his stuff when it comes to McLaren - he fitted a Larini exhaust to my second 720S. You ll get a personalised service from an owner operated independent specialist. My experience when dealing with the MD s is that all the business is interested in is maximising bottom-line.

Red is my favourite car colour, but as a change I once ordered a 981 GTS in racing yellow. Then grew tired of the amount of insects it attracted. You have to be pretty picky and into cleaning cars and I did live in the wilds of the countryside, but I'd not have another yellow car after that. (Having said that I did buy the car back after a misguided foray into a GT4 as the car was amazing).

Now in a metallic blue 570S which gets a lot of positive comments for the colour but which I don't find that attractive. The drive makes up for it mind.

I smiled at that. I used to have a yellow Elise and had forgotten how many times it was covered in insects … particularly after washing it!! biggrin

As above, with McLarens I think the contrast between the carbon bits and the body colour is the main visual appeal.

Totally a personal view here but I really dislike the colour of the Palladium bits on McLarens. Obviously the exposed carbon is magic and the black-pack versions are neat but Palladium just looks like a bit meh to me.

Good that we all like different things tho.

Yellow.

I bought one in SY last month and very happy with it - the paint is metallic and just looks incredible in the sunshine. As I said previously I enquired about that yellow car and it seems a good one and he's a decent seller I'd say.

Indeed I actually WANTED a car with more than 20k on it becasue I want a car that's been used as they seem to be a better bet, so on that basis I'd trouser the 3k and get that one.

Of those the Yellow was my first instinct but that blue is stunning so blue.

Failing that wait for Mantis Green as it is the best colour

Thanks, i remember you saying. He's dropped the price now to 87.5, just had 3 points of corrosion sorted and I've also spoken with Litchfield who are singing it's praises.
