I tried the main club last week, but although they came back quickly, weirdly they said they aren’t taking new members for a few weeks as they have had a recent influx…. and if I wanted to go to the Boston bash I could book with the castle and park in the main public car park.

This didn’t feel very inviting and supportive, so wondered if there are other options and owners thoughts on the club?

I'm surprised by that! They've been great for me. I'll reach out

I think they do pause membership occasionally and I suspect they've been overrun with sign ups for the event this weekend - and the logistics of organising it.

It is an excellent club though, so although I understand your frustration it is well worth joining when you can.

I’m also surprised but I think you’ve just caught them at the wrong time. This weekend is their biggest event in the last five years so a huge amount of admin going on. I’d still come along if you can. I’ve never had any issue. The other club I’m a member of is SCD ( Supercar Driver ). More expensive but a lot more varied events if you want something broader than just McLaren.

That's odd, I joined a month ago and the joining process was very easy, with quick responses from the organisers.

The only thing that held it up was DVLA supplying me with the new V5, which is needed to join.

As others have said, I'm sure this is related to the big event this weekend, which no doubt takes a lot of time to organise.

They just confirmed it's only a hold until after Velocity this weekend. To be fair it takes them a LOT of organising and work for that weekend

I joined the club a month ago, which was approved, but much doesn't seemed to have happened since. Does anyone know if you get a members pack through the post, or does this not exist? I can't log in to the members area as it's not recognising my email address, but I have reached out to the club about that.

I have joined SCD aswell and there seems to be lots going on there.

I've not received a member's pack via the post but that may be down to the event organisation taking priority.

However, I have been able to login to the member area and I'm now on a couple of the Whatsapp groups, where members have been really helpful.

Yes, you’ll get the members pack through the post eventually. You should have access to the private Facebook group and you’ll also get emails about events. Join the SCD WhatsApp groups if you haven’t already as there’s lots going on there. Sometimes too much ! There’s also the Marketplace WhatsApp group for cars, watches, houses, robot lawn mowers, etc.

Thanks for the replies. I have joined a Whatsapp group for the North West, where I am based, but not much seems to happen on there. That's the only one.
I don't have access to the private Facebook group so not sure how I access that. I am in a few SCD Whatapp groups, lots going on there, and lots of events. I sensed that robot lawn mowers was a prolific theme, but before my time there. Quite apt though as I am looking at these myself.

I'm sure they'll be fine once the rush is over.

It's the party to celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the club this weekend (170+ cars will be there) and then in two weeks time is the French tour with 40-ish cars. The organisation that goes into these things is crazy as Jeff, Carl and the rest of the team want them to be perfect (and they are!).

I'm in the south east and the regional club whatsapp group is pretty quiet, we have a Kent owners group for all owners (not just the club) which is very busy. Many of the owners in the Kent group are club members so that's where most of the chat is. I'd try and find out if there's any other whatsapp groups for your area/county.

Defintely join the owner's club when you can - it's worth it, especially if you would like to do some trips - they are very good indeed smile. The membership pack won't arrive very quickly but that wasn't too much of a worry for me.

Thanks for the replies guys, glad many of you find the club to be good.

But as I used to run events and a magazine (with a very small team) their response still seems poor. I usually only attend annual gatherings and major shows and as I’m missing this year I don’t think it’s for me. But I wish them every future success.

As per other new members, I joined in the last few weeks and got added to the whatsapp group but nothing else; no Facebook group link, no welcome infos etc. I have let it slide as I can see they are in a frenzy organising this huge event on 23/8 so I'll wait until the dust settles before I chase them. I don't have time to drive to Lancashire from London on sunday so I wasn't going to press to attend the event (although it looks great, just a bit too far at short notice).

I think, as new members, we have caught them slightly on the hop this month.
