600lt exhaust upgrade
Discussion
Hi all, I’m looking for any recommendations plus pro’s & cons of getting an after market exhaust for my 600lt. I’m after more volume/tone enhancements rather than any power improvements and initially thought of changing the back box. I have a bog standard exhaust at the moment on a coupe. I’ve heard the so-called American box and wasn’t really impressed with the increase in sound. It’s been suggested that the only way to get real sound improvement is to go down the downpipe route but I’m not sure I want to get involved in having to get engine light problems solved which I’ve heard is an issue.
Any help would be most appreciated

Nicromobium X pipe is the better answer imho than the mso exhaust variant which is basically a small bore link pipe plus removal of the exhaust valves.
If you want really loud /obnoxious then you need downpipes unfortunately, and if you don't retain sports cats you'll have issues with EML lights that need coding out typically. Jack Webb offer both x pipe and 300 cell cat downpipes as options.

Honestly on a 600LT the standard system is already pretty loud, so a back box alone won't give you much - as you found with the American box. Downpipes are where the real gain is, but you're right to be wary of the CEL. A good set of sports cats or a reputable downpipe with a proper tune will keep the light off, but that's extra cost and hassle. If you just want tone without the grief, look at a quality axle-back from a known McLaren specialist rather than a generic box - they're designed to work with the standard ECU. Worth talking to a specialist who's done a few 600LTs before spending anything.
Give Eddie at Brooke Race Exhausts a call. He did mine on my 600LT Spyder - sounds incredible and big flames. Inconel X-Pipe and race cats. No issues with engine lights or emissions and car was still serviced at McLaren with no queries, other than being told by the technician how good the car sounded!
