Leaf AC pump failure
Discussion
Had a replacement pump fitted today but not charged up as significant debris was found in the oil. The pump is a scroll design and dismantling it the stationary scroll has broken up. Came to pieces easily. Interesting design that the pump brushless motor does not have rotor position sensing, so it must work just on back emf like drone and model aircraft motor controllers.
New pump is £1100 so I had a £100 2nd hand one fitted. Car is 2012. I got a 2015 pump but it is different and I've seen different designs again. Maybe Nissan had a problem and changed the design. Dilemma now is how much to spend on flushing and I have been advised to replace the drier and condenser. Anyone else had this failure?

AC man returned with a new condenser and dryer. Fitted these OK and now all works again. New pump is quieter than the old one less buzzy. So I suspect my original had a manufacturing defect. Whole episode cost approx. £650 to get it working again.
So if I buy a new Leaf I will take the old parts long and expect a discount for the trouble I was put to.
