Ford Electric SUV

I have been waiting for the Skoda Vision IV launch, but saw a Ford advert about what i assume is Ford's equivalent this week.

Looks like the top model will have 370 mile WLTP range and 2-motor 300bhp.

This sort of range works well for me. I do about 10 mile round trip daily, and drive 210 miles from Leeds to Bath (420 mile round trip) a couple of times per month. On that journey i always stop for a toilet/coffee/food break so assuming i can get 20 mins on a rapid charger each way i don't think i need to worry about range or charging at my hotel/factory.



The GF has just bought a Ford Fiesta ST-Line, and we are very impressed with it. We didnt realise when we bought it, but it has an integrated 4G modem, and has a pretty cool app. Also my long commute drives bore me to tears. I love Active Cruise, Lane keep assist etc as it makes it less tiring going through the M42 rush hour that i get caught in fairly often.

I want something practical for family, and like the idea of the electric torque, want more driver assistance, think the range is now approproate.

My PCP on my Octavia VRS estate ends in about a year, so when these are released in 2020 it's a perfect time.

So... TL:DR I'm excited about these new electric SUV and hopeful techfest. What does PH think about the "Mustang SUV" and the Skoda SUV coupe??

Seriously sceptical ford can get anywhere near 370 mile wltp.

Model X raven is 314, and the 3 is 348 miles.

So the ford will either need a humongous battery (expensive and heavy) and/or incredible efficiency.

Good luck to them if they can manage it though.

When Ford start working on it the NEDC rating would still have been the industry 'standard' in Europe, so if its 370 miles NEDC who knows.

But potentially very exciting, out side BMW and Tesla, my only other non-japanese car was a Ford Mondeo Zetec! Nearly bought a Focus RS too.

I must admit I didn’t expect Ford’s first proper foray into electrification would be a BEV Mustang in a SUV package, but certainly .. interesting

This says they're targeting 600km on the WLTP cycle. All I'll say is that I'll believe it when I see it.

If they can match the current top end of 250-300 miles of real world range I don't see it being an issue?

I've got a soft spot for Ford. Had quite a few as second cars over the years (Ka, Fiesta, Focus, Mondeo) and they've all been very good. I wish them well.

Fair play to them for pushing for a long range! Will wait to see how it turns out, but if they can meet their goal, good work!

They just seem so much better than the alternatives from Vauxhall, Peugeot, Citroen etc. and have more personality than any of the usual Japanese subjects.

A Tesla incoming, declaring a soft spot for Ford and off to dinner tonight with my mate from Pennsylvania and his British wife.

Slowly assimilating..

I've owned a Mondeo ST220, an S-Max with the 5-cylinder turbo, a diesel S-Max, and I've bought a Focus for a couple of my ex-girlfriends. You could say I am a bit of a Ford fan.

I'd love them to make a really good EV - an electric S-Max with 300kW of power and 350 miles of range would be my dream

TBH (and I can't believe I'm about to say this) I don't think that that looks at all bad. It'll be interesting if it's colour dependent but in B&W, and from that angle, it looks stonking!

I am eagerly awaiting more information on this and really hope it looks like the black and white render above. If it'll do 250 real world motorway miles in winter, I'll be having one.

thing is i think we would mostly all accept a 2/300 kg extra weight penalty for the sake of extra range.

everyone harks on about razor sharp handling andcars being agile but tbh 99% of use in the real world is plodding round town and up and down motorways i'd quite happily trade a bit of extra pork for extended range

After Bentley stuck a grill and badge onto the Bentayga and Rolls did the same for the Cullinan, and both looked a but meh..
