Is anyone using this company? Is anyone on the go tariff?

if so, any review comments would be welcome, as well as a referral code!

Cheers

Been with them for a few months now, they've been great, no issues at all. I can't fully charge my i3 during the 4 hours but its plenty for every day usage, I just plug in a couple of times a week.

Have you decided to keep the Model 3 for now?

Thanks! £50 coming your way.

Ive decided to keep it until spring, see how I feel then. In the mean time it makes sense to have the cheapest form of charging at home, even if I dont want to use it haha.

I get around 32 miler per hour charge so 130 miles give or take in 4 hours should be plenty and in theory should be around £1.40 in electric vs current supplier cost of around £4, give or take

I'm with Octopus on their Go tariff, makes running an EV very cheap (3rd of the cost of the usual household tariffs).

To the OP, unless you have a suitable smart meter already fitted you will have to wait for one to be fitted before you can switch to Go.
You need either a SMETS2 or a Secure SMETS1

Thanks to all, yes I read about needing to wait for the smart meter. Though my parents got one within a week recently and live down the road so I suspect the mesh network covering the local town is sufficient to allow install of a decent smets2 ( I used to test smart meter so have a good working knowledge of the setup)

I get inclusive supercharging and inclusive polar plus so this is only for back up and to offset the appalling power usage on the model 3 now that it's cold.

With, and I assume it’s from here, a thanks to Darren. If you can make yourself known with a favoured charity I’ll make the appropriate donation.

Big vote of support in Octopus from myself - we moved over in Sept and it took a while for my SMETS2 meter to switch over so only been on Go since mid-Nov.

Along with a very responsive e-mail help they also have an API to download your usage by the 30 mins so you can keep track of both elec and gas in detail.

I have just done the analysis on our last month of elec usage and we have shifted 60% of our elec consumption to the 00:30-04:30 window at a significant saving - this is just charging the car, dishwasher on timer and washing machine on timer. Overall saving of about £60 a month.

Happy to post the python script for downloading usage if anyone wants it.

Cheers,

Phil

We are on Go too with a Secure SMETS1 meter put in by E-on before we moved in. It never worked properly on Bulb but works on Octopus.

No complaints - we charge the Model S on a 32A charger and it adds about 35% in 4 hours and the other car is on a 13A plug and gets 8kwh added so not really worth it, but is usually charged at work. I’ve heard they have a trial where you can change the hours you get a cheap rate or get 5 hours at 5.5p. It’s worth emailing them to ask.

Oddly seem out of place on this forum as we don't yet have any EVs. Looking at it for my other half as she does very short journeys to work and an EV would seem ideal.

So far with Octopus, I am impressed with the 'technology' as in the API for pulling down meter readings* and variable rates. I have written some scripts to do this and will be running some comparisons againts the various tariffs as soon as I have some decent data.

Reason for going for 'Go' when we don't yet have an EV.... we have a high-ish constant load throughout the day and night (server rack), and 5p for some hours overnight with no penalty for normal hours pricing seems a win.

May change to the dynamic pricing (Agile) if that works out better for us.

 • Only issue... we haven't had our SMETS2 meter yet. Been waiting nearly two months, but to be fair Octopus have kept us in the loop and even (unprompted) gave us their installers phone number just before Xmas so we can chase up directly. Since it is Xmas, I will give it another couple of weeks before chasing.
Compared to the mess of billing that ScottishPower made, Octopus are streets ahead so far.

We've been on the Go tariff for about 18 months now and as of 16th December have been moved to "Octopus Go Faster".

As a reminder, we offered a choice of Go Faster for 3 hours at 4.5p/kWh, 4 hours at 5p/kWh or 5 hours at 5.5p/kWh with starting times at either 20.30, 21.30, 22.30, 23.30 or 00.30.

The objective of this tariff is to research how we can smooth out grid load by inviting you to choose from a variety of start times but with the constraint that we may move your start time as part of the ‘smoothing’ process.

As Go Faster is available through the overnight period 20.30 to 06.30 we’ve extended the time periods to include 01.30, 02.30 and 03.30 such that the relevant 3, 4, 5 hour versions end at the latest by 06.30 (e.g. 03.30 start for the 3 hour version).

We've selected 3 hours from 20:30. It's enough to give the car more power than we need on a daily basis (we charge the Zoe about once a week unless going on a longer trip) and also means we can use the cheaper rate during the evening for the dishwasher, washing machine etc. Looking forward to seeing if this half-penny discount during what are more 'peak' hours for us than overnight saves anything noticeable.

Another vote for Octopus here.

I've recently switched over to the trial Go Faster tariff. This allows you to choose 3, 4 or 5 hours off peak at rates of 4.5p, 5p or 5.5p kWh and start times from 8.30pm to 3.30am. I've stayed on 4 hours at 5p kWh as I can't see that we would regulary need to charge our i3 for more than that on a nightly basis. It also means that the dishwasher and washing machine can go on in the evening to make more use of the off peak rates.
