Hi all

I am new to the world of EV having purchased a Tesla yesterday, due for delivery in the next 12 weeks.

I am looking at putting in a home charging point as well as at the office. Both will be outside.

What charge point do you recommend? Is pod point any good?

I’d like the cables to lock into the charger so they can’t be stolen, and for the charger to be locked and unusable by anyone else without a key.

Many thanks in advance!

I've an EO charger. I have the Basic model, but you might have to install the Smart charger version as the rules have changed since I bought mine. I've had mine for 2 years and I've never had a problem despite using it every night, nor have i read of any problems.

However, it doesn't have a lock. Mine is inside the garage and I run the cable under the door so it's not a problem worrying about someone stealing my electric.

If you want the cable to be theft proof go for a tethered cable charger.

The ones I’ve seen that lock use the most basic of tubular locks that can be easily bypassed by those who know.

People seem to want a lock but I’ve yet to hear of anyone be so brazen as to park on someone’s drive and plug in for hours to steal a couple of quids worth of electricity. You can just flip the breaker off at the fuse board if you’ll be away for a while.

At home, yeah. Maybe a bit different if you're installing a private one in some kind of shared work car park though.
