Hi,

Owned a 67 plate 330e now for 3 months, loving the car and the blend of economy and pulling power, however the tyres are the only letdown so far. Opted for a highly specced SE model for the more economical 17 inch wheels, which I thought would be quieter than my old Audi 19s...

Wrong! Maybe because they are runflats with large stiff sidewalls? The tyre rumble is fine, but on anything other than new smooth tarmac, they’ve got a very noticeable tune. Can be quite intrusive in the cabin.

Fronts, especially front driver side, are unevenly worn and stepped on the outer edges. Rears were replaced when car was purchased and they are not unevenly worn. They are Pirelli Cinturato.

Any recommendations for replacements? I’ve had good experience of Continentals in the past, or am I going to be told ditching runflats is the only solution?

Thanks!

I always had Eagle F1 run flats on my F30. The ride was very good and road noise minimal on 18s. 225/45 front and 255/40 rear iirc. Tyre wear was also good, 24k before changing. Run flats have came a long way and the F1s were excellent.

I was hoping for the same again but my G20 came with Turanzas. When change comes I will likely put on Goodyears again but might be tempted to try the Michelin Pilot Sport run flats.

Can't speak for a 330E since I am running a F11 530D Xdrive (hefty at 2050kg empty).

Went from Pirelli Cinturato P7 RFT to Michelin Primacy 3 RFT with BMW-star approved rating (18" 245/45) and the difference was immense.
The improved ride comfort and lower noise levels are amazing! Eventhough I do mostly motorway miles I'm pleasantly surprised at the handling when I do push them and thus far haven't regretted not going for a sportier tire yet.

After 15.000 miles no odd wear patterns yet either, where the previous Cinturato were showing bad deformation of the rear tires. More specifically the inner sides wearing out badly (which I believe is a thing with lots of BMW's but the Pirelli's were notoriously bad for this).

Thanks for the suggestions, there are still a few mms to go on the fronts before changing so reluctant to do anything yet, they’re expensive enough as it is. But the Michelin’s sound like a good bet to me...

Moving away from RFTs isn’t something I want to do either, as they are factory spec.

Thanks!

Mine is much nicer after getting rid of the P7's. Now has Goodyear run flats on (bmw star marked). They have lasted longer too, mine is on 18in staggered set up. F30 18 plate
