Now I know the Chinese aren't exactly shy of copying others but this one takes the biscuit

It gets better, the interior is part Honda-e, part Tesla with a VW Golf steering wheel!

That interior is an improvement on VW's offering?

Certainly is. I notice they've gone half Tesla and added a tiny display in front of the steering wheel. Also doesn't seem to have any brake or accelerator pedals.

I would say that is a step up from VW and Tesla TBH.

Nah, what do you need all that crap in the centre console for? smile

The things you want to use with muscle memory and direct access, they are just the minimum looking at it, but important things for that car.

I like the small screen in front of the driver with basic info like speed etc, then the main screen for everything else.

Looks interesting...

Given BYDs extensive history of BEV buses, it is likely to have a decent range at least.

420km NEDC, it has sliding rear doors too as it's meant for ride hailing businesses along the lines of Uber.

No, I've seen that steering wheel before and it wasn't on a VW, can't put my fingers on it though.

Why hasn't it got any pedals?

Shocking, all modern cars look kind of the same.

Given the timescales needed to design and get a car into production they couldn't have copied VW on this. It's just that everyone is going in the same direction, minimal dash with an early 2000s tablet glued on.

biglaugh

The interior is clearly a Model 3 'homage'. The exterior is blatant ID3 copy, down to the identical wheel design.

Can't see what you are getting at, the wheel centres are not the same and it's clearly a different colour drunk

What amazes me is that the Chinese copies always manage to look worse than the original. Maybe that's why BMW designed the iX to look so disgusting. If the Chinese copy it absolutely no one will buy it rofl

Not really, BYD have been making cars with that kind of interior for longer than the Model 3 has existed. It's just you don't see many China only models covered in the West.

The front looks more like the Kona to me, which is basically the most efficient design. Slots at the sides to direct airflow around the wheels. Kia has similar slots in the Niro, as do many other EVs.

The ID3 rips off the patterned front of the Kona. Overall it has a more aggressive look, with the angle of the lights and much larger wheels. The D1 is clearly designed as a town car for high efficiency at low speeds. It's a much more conventional shape too, e.g. the windows are all in a straight line compared to the angled small front and back ones on the ID3.

EVs tend to share a lot of design features because they are efficient or because they are quiet. For example both of these have the little ridges above the headlights to deflect air away from the wing mirrors and prevent noise, which was an original Leaf design feature that has subsequently been refined.

Never heard anyone say the ID3 looks aggressive before, it looks like it’s about to apologise for something.

The way the headlights are angled and the faux grille at the bottom make it look like a knock-off anime character. Like an angry Pokemon.
