Afternoon all

Have any of you gone fully electric, and are you missing the ICE?

I've had over 50 cars in my 52 years, and I LOVE cars in general. One of my last cars this year was a 2016 C63 Saloon, lovely noise and power, crap build quality, terrible ride!

Anyway, I've just ordered an Audi E-Tron and the Mrs is getting the E Golf for her first dip into the electric pool.

I'm worried I'll miss the engine noise, the mechanics of it all, although I also looking forward to the quiet and comfort of the EVs. We don't do many miles between us, as we're both based from home, so we thought EV would be the best way to go.

What's your experiences?

I occasionally miss the noise and power of my old V8 550i but I don't miss the running costs, the relentless fluid leaks, the hideous tax bill, the fuel bill...

I'm loving EV ownership and I can't see myself going back to fossil fuel.

Pure EV for 2 years now, suits us perfectly as like you don't cover massive distances and are in a position where we can charge at home.

Would consider an ICE toy for weekend fun but never miss it for daily use.

I have had a wide range of cars including 3 TVRs and a Maserati, I drive an electric car, for everyday use it is great and I will not be going back to ICE cars for my daily driver.
I really don’t miss the comparatively rough, unrefined and unresponsive driving experience of most ICE cars but I would like to have a fun petrol car like Lotus Evora for the weekend.

Cheers guys. I've had tons of Volvo T5's over the years, and had an S70 T5 up until recently. I thought it would be magical owning another classic T5, but in truth, it showed its age, and was pretty crap to drive! I MAY get something small and nippy to play with if I get bored, I just hope I dont yearn for another V6 or V8.

Time will tell wink

I drive (have driven for 5 years) an EV. It's fast, efficient and convienient.

it's also so cheap that it allows me to have a 600bhp weekend car that cracks to 0-100 sprint in 5 secones dead, that does about 10 mpg, that spits flames, drifts like a maniac, and in 10 minute of driving provides all the drama anyone could ever want..........

Wife and I both drive EVs - Tesla M3P and Kona Electric. They are perfect for daily usage and we are never going back to ICE for daily duties.

However, I do have an Ariel Atom for Summer fun which I intend to keep for as long as I can.

Wife and I have a Model 3 Performance and a BMW i3s

I had a CLS63 AMG prior to the Tesla, I thought I would miss th noise but I dont really - so many things about the Tesla are better that overall I wouldnt go back.

A weekend toy might be different though.

I've got a Tesla M3P, my wife has a Honda e.

I've also got a couple of ICE toys in the garage, though it's winter so they're SORN, and won't be covering many miles (think they managed less than 250 combined this year) next year, so may eventually go/be replaced.

Unless something changes I very very much doubt I'll be going back to ICE for my year round daily driver. My wife I'm less sure about, she's picked her car less because it was an EV and more because she liked the look, she works from home and does very few miles, so unsure if she'll actually see the benefits over the years she has it.

But being selfish for a second, it doesn't bother me as long as I like what I have to drive.

Don't miss it at all, and I've owned various five and six cylinder engines, and even a V10. The smooth, quiet torque you get with an electric car is, in my opinion, simply superior. I don't miss anything about combustion.

We have a petrol new Discovery and a diesel Discovery Sport, and to be honest just cruising around you would not know (by noise) whether they were petrol, diesel or electric...(such is the soundproofing) and motorway speed, you hear tyre noise/wind noise more than any engine..

so day to day car, I wouldn't care ICE or EV (thinking of replacing the Sport with an I-Pace...)

Beside that we have 3 V8s, of varying degrees of noisyness.. But the I-pace, real world will be quicker, than at least 2 of them (up to a hundred) and I don't expect to go on a track

My last car was a near-600hp tuned twin-turbo Audi S6 - lovely car with an epic soundtrack.

My Tesla Model 3 Performance would murder that Audi in any contest of speed on the street, and the Tesla's tech and seating comfort are also far superior. Add in the much lower running costs and convenience of a fully charged battery every morning and I really don't miss the Audi at all.

I have an ipace. Really don’t miss the noise of ICE - in fact I totally prefer the absence of noise

It'll be the sae for most I'm sure. Who's going to miss the drone of the dreadful 4 cylinder petrol/diesel engines that are fitted to the majority of cars on the road?

This thread reminds me of when I ask a vegetarian friend of mine if he misses bacon.

"NO I DON'T MISS BACON AT ALL, OK? STOP ASKING ME IF I MISS BACON! I REALLY, REALLY DON'T MISS BACON, HONEST! EVERYONE THINKS I MUST MISS BACON BUT I REALLY DON'T, OK? I REALLY, REALLY, REALLY, REALLY TOTALLY DON'T WANT BACON AT ALL."

Same way you know someone drives an electric car. They'll tell you within 30 seconds of meeting them.

I’ve had an EV (Tesla M3P) for a year now - add me to the list of those who will never buy an ICE car for my daily driver again.

In fact, it’s almost made my weekend toy redundant, I feel like a broken record commenting on EV posts on here but the EV really does everything so well.

Just be aware of range anxiety if going further afield. The public charger is hit and miss unless its a Tesla. Both the E-tron and E-golf range are limited. Unless you have another ICE to fall back on.
