Apologies - not sure if this belongs here or in the biker banter section. Guess it could be either or both!

Stumbled across these the other day. Was actually the wife who showed me them as a lady in a woman’s group she’s in on Facebook had got one.

I find it pretty intriguing and must admit, it seems to me like something which could make a lot of sense for a lot of folk in terms of commuting at least!

Price seems reasonable, it looks like a nice enough bit of kit in a Vespa kinda way.

Down side for me is the limited range and top speed but for the purposes of a commuter bike - that’s probably not such an issue.

Did notice that myself. Not sure if that’s an accurate date or not - maybe that their dealers / distributors already have stock? No idea tbh.

Yes, I think it means that they are starting their delivery service in August but they are available now for collection.

Exactly, scooters are almost 1005 used for short journeys. 50m range is plenty for them.

I do like the ability to take the batteries out and recharge or just have another set so you always have a charged pack available.

I suppose the fact that a similar ICE scooter itself already can be run for very low costs, so perhaps the savings aren’t as massive as they might be in switching your car to electric.

But I still find myself liking the idea - like I say, something like this will make sense for a huge number of people. And it’s treated on the basis of a 50cc moped for licensing purposes making it even more accessible (no CBT required if you passed your test long enough ago I think?)

Most impressed by the pricing though - when the wife told me about it I think I had prices of £4K+ in my head.

Taking pre orders before having them shipped from China I would guess.

Weighing in at nearly 100kg and with a top speed of less than 30mph you'd be better off with an conventional ebike imo.

It's mad they can make that for £800.

It also shows how the UK company is making crazy money on it by using the governments grant. I mean is that like a £2000 profit per sale?!

With so much enthusiasm for e-bike, e-scooters and EV's I've never really understood why "e-mopeds" aren't more of a thing here. As a youth, it was the coolest thing to have a peugeot or piaggio 50cc scooter that our french exchange compatriots had and you see all over italy.

For short distance commutes they are perfect. I guess cars are now so much more affordable than they once were so the first wheels now comes with a roof or straight to a 'proper' motorbike and moped's have lost their place and role?

Try and get insurance on a moped as a teen in an urban area, often a car will be cheaper!

The French let 14 year olds do a CBT-equivalent then head off a 50cc (or a quadricycle). Here it's 16 and you're only a year away from getting a 125cc (or doing your driving test) instead.

The stand-on e-scooters seem to have taken over a big chunk of that market here. Illegal on pavement or road still but cheap, unlikely to get caught, and good enough to get you across town or to the next village.

I think that's just a side effect. The main reason is to be able to take in the batteries and charge them. Since this is clearly urban transport, it's basically a necessity for a lot of the potential customers.
Another good side effect for that is range in the winter. A battery sitting outside will have greatly reduced range, while one that is kept at a nice >20 °C will perform a lot better.

I always wondered if this could become a problem for employers when multiple people bring in their e-bike/e-mobility to charge.
At what point is it stealing from your employer? hehe

They’ve got the price point bang on for that. A zone 1-4 London travel card is £2k per year so even with basic man maths it’s paid for itself in a bit over a year. I recently switched to an E Bike to avoid the train as I still have to commute in 3 days a week. Thankfully I got mine 2nd hand but brand new with the options it would have been £3k. And you still have to pedal! If you’ve got no urge to exercise then one of these would make complete sense.

Anyone else fancy getting in on this tax scam? We import the £800 bikes, then the government pay us 20% of the £2500 purchase price when we sell them. Can't lose. 20% return + the rest.

I was wondering about that. Used to work with someone who was so tight with money that it was bordering on obsession. Used to charge all his stuff at work (personal laptop, iPad, digital camera), even had one of those massive power banks which he would charge up at work and then use over the weekend to charge his phone. Imagine he'd love the company to be picking up his travel costs as well laugh

... While already being paid for travel.

I actually have a couple of customers that pay my travel expenses and meantime allow me to charge my car foc at their site. But you can't really charge a car without permission tbh.

As for the laptop /cell phone, I know someone like that as well hehe whatever floats their boat, really. But transport can add up.

Interesting - I wonder if these will catch on, certainly seems ideal for city or for commuting, removable batteries a bonus too.

I wonder what the importer / distributor are doing about the warranty as this could hurt.......I have just had a read up on the grant and in order to register the product and become eligible for the OLEV grant, the vehicle must be offered with a 2yr unlimited mileage warranty and 3 years / 30k KM on the battery and certain degradation criteria must also be met. This seems overly optimistic, especially harsh for a moped.

We had an established, family run motorcycle shop and started selling motorcycles and scooters manufactured in China, the quality varies massively and even with the best of the best you wouldn't dream of offering a 2 year unlimited mileage warranty.

I wish them luck!
