Any tax breaks from HMRC for charging electric car at home ?
Discussion
Hi there,
I currently run a Golf GTE as a company car (not my company) and have never really bothered charging it at home as the range is only 25-30 miles when full charged so I tend to drive it everywhere using whatever range it generates itself while regen braking etc.
This car is up for change in August this year and the company really wants to move to an all electric fleet.
I know there a BIK savings for me given an all electric car but I was wondering if I charged the car at home whether there is any tax break or incentive paid to me given that I will have to stump up for the increase in electricity usage on my domestic account ?
Anyone have any insight on this ?
Regards
Tim

You can claim 4p per mile for any business use and if your company provides you with a home charger, there is no BIK payable on that.
Otherwise you'd have to prove the electricity cost exceeds 4p/mile to claim any more inorder not pay any income tax on any amount above 4p/mile.

Many thanks, appreciate your post. That answers my question :-)
